CYNTHIA DePALMA Business Manager L To those who worked as editors or staff members of the Whitman Window in 1958-59, little more mattered than to make it the best school newspaper on Long Island. Work it was-gathering news,.writing features, typing copy, secur- ing ads, and finally, selling the paper to Whitmanites who all too often didn't realize the effort that made each four or six page edition possible. Using their littered office as headquarters, Walt Whit- man's junior journalists rarely needed the prodding of editor-in-chief Terrence Hughes or faculty adviser, Mr. David Skinner, and usually managed to make each deadline -within a day or two. Triumphs for the Window this year included a well-lauded sports extra during the exciting bas- ketball season and a commendable rating from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. The talents of the many who devoted much of their time to preparing and distributing the Window were not wasted. This year, more than in others, the Whitman Window gained stature as an authentic voice of student opinion and provided an outstanding experience for those students interested in the varied phases of journalism. It also took a long forward step toward the goal of scholastic press supremacy.
