Teachers don't just mean tests and marks, they mean developing, helping and giving. The faculty and administration have their dreams too - dreams of being all they can be for each of us at Walsingham. There is a child and a student in each teacher -learning and teaching at one and the same time. Teachers dream of giving more to each student to help us to become better prepared to meet the challenges of life. Some- times we can't accept all they have to offer and sometimes we don't know why we should. Perhaps tomorrow will be the best answer for today's questions. Our teachers are special. Some ride bikes to school, or dress up for the Halloween party and all have an unselfish interest in every student - showing us what it means to truly teach. They have their dreams for us. Now we must use all that they have given us and make those dreams come true. Summer jobs, that Special someone and long evening walks were replaced by rosters, new classes and homework. Adjustment to a modular, fluctuating schedule was assumed by the administration, so this year the most often heard cry was not What mod is it? , but What DAY is it? Once we realized that a Friday schedule did not always fall on Friday, but more often on Monday or Tues- day, we settled into serious work. A whole new atmosphere, which could best be described as involved and spirited seemed to pervade W.A. This spirit was shown from Sr. Iosephine, who was known to sing solos at pep rallies, to the Eighth Grade, even though they found them- selves low men on the totem pole for the second year in a row. The athletic seasons brought us together, as did the dances, the Halloween party and the practices and presentation of the Christmas Concert. Key Club projects, archeological digs, SWT visits to Dunbar and The Pines, recycling efforts, Spirit Day, the Talent Show, Spring Musicale, Antique Show and Harvey all involved a large portion of the student body. Doing all of this helped us to grow and to learn to whistle while we work. There were also times, on a golden afternoon or while watching a quiet snowfall, that we had the opportunity to share fun, thoughts, or prayers with others. On Days of Recollection we had the chance to put things all togetherg we had the time to be in our own little corner. Seniors chalked up the days 'till graduation, all the while just a little wary of what the future holds. Our world here at W.A. is one of laughter and tears, of over- time basketball games and weekly prayer meetings, of hard, serious work and fantasy, of beginnings and endings. It is a world where time seems endless - and so does the homework - but where the weeks and months seem to pass too quickly. Our love and thanks, Sister. The 1974 Legende means hectic deadlines, I.D. and the pink elephant, the Halloween party, listening to Neil Diamond until two in the morning, watching sunrises, Polaroid pictures, laughing over could-be captions, crunching potato chips by the 3 pound box, eyes glued to Melissa's TV, tears of frustration, rushing to Sister Ianet for words of wisdom, plans for pajama parties at the convent, mix-up on deadline dates, frantic requests rushed to the dark room, so many good ideas and not enough time, Winnie the Pooh overlooking the general chaos, 18 people fighting for our one and only cropper, Debbie's strange captions, hating and loving every minute of it and. . .that beautiful final deadline! 33 Allin a Golden Afternoon . as-Wi: .. if-5 wx! X J .w I www' 5 - - W All grownups were once children - although few of them remember it. It was the night before Christmas and all through the house, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, snowflakes and Santa Claus, presents and happy memories - wasn't it just a few minutes ago that we slept with one eye open and waited for the signal to reach under the Christmas tree and open up the gifts that were wrapped in love? Now we're getting older, we have scraped our knees, we have had to dry our tears alone, we sometimes face the future with fear. And in the midst of all these new experiences, the child in all of us invites us back to visit the Wizard of Oz, to hope that Cinderella finds her shoe, to laugh at Dopey. It's easy to forget, but it's so hard to let go. So wouldn't it be better to remember and hold on to all those things that peopled our lives when we were very small, yet very open? Growing up does not mean growing out of touch with those things we love so much. It means being yourself in a world that's trying its best to make you someone else. Yes, we have our Linus blankets and we still like Winnie the Pooh. Does that really mean we're immature? No, it means we're still alive to the joy that used to be. xl Dccu JMS p,LciLu,Q Umxi QLHQQCLV5 --LkQCL.Q, CQ V Bum! For each of the Peles, Ryuns, Mark Spitzs and Billie Iean Kings, there are a million others who dream of such greatness. In our dreams we are free to be our own secret star - making the winning goal, scoring the basket at the buzzer, winning the championship. Our dream and fantasy lives can inspire us to new heights, to new achievements and bigger goals. Not so long ago we only dreamed about winning our varsity letters, cheering our teams to victory and fulfilling our personal expectations. Now these things have come true and there are new dreams and expecta- tions waiting to be dreamed. To live up to our own expectations is our greatest challenge and indeed our greatest accomplish- ment. Each day is a unique new challenge, demanding that we give all that we are. Each day is a sporting event designed to help us develop ourselves, not only as athletes but as people. The twist- ing, hard fought layup, the final lunge at thetape, and the agony of having to get up and try again -these are the ingredients of success in sports and in life. In school we each dreamed of greatness. We practiced, and we cheered and we worked together to become all we are capa- ble of being. We are each a bit of the hero if we have come to know our own selves and what we are capable of doing and being in sports and in life. ' aw ' Koh?-I 111.2140 -l3- 0-Lol Cozy, 80 +A-0-LLxl.Q.,ZU 7Lcw-pOM:6!LLws,l!a, For eleven years eaclfsglus has been striving for the major goal, one where we would receive all the corresponding honor and credits of being a senior. Our senior year, of 1973-74, has not only been filled with hectic times but also moments of soli- tude. This year can be termed unique in that we created and experienced many firsts for Walsingham seniors. We are a spirited and united class, able to fulfill our dreams and from them develop reality. In September, there was the Get Acquainted Dance spon- sored by the seniors. Lots of laughs came when the senior girls tried to learn the funky chicken. In December, the class got together at Lisa Lewis' for a cocktail party. Other unique expe- riences include the class picture, with only one camera shy, and Senior Night which was given on Valentine's Day. Each mem- ber of the class was given a door prize and a special cheer done by the senior cheerleaders. Spirit week for the State Bas- ketball Tournament brought about more firsts. Seniors were seen wearing banana craze earrings, stickers, and even banana peels! Being a senior of the 1973-74 class was a fulfillment of our childhood dreams and fantasies. These childhood dreams and our happy-sad senior year days, will serve as a foundation on which to build our dreams of tomorrow.
