CLASS HISTORY Let us return through the space of time to the first day of school for nine little first graders. Mary Althaus, Joan Crumley, Roger Grubb, Pat Harber, Becky Hartley, Laura Hartman, Larry Hines, Don Schrader, and Beverly Scothorn walked meekly into their new room. There to welcome us was our first teacher, Mrs. Lowell Cooper. She was new here at Walnut, too, so we all started our trip through space together. In the second grade we had Mrs. John Hoover. This year we put on an operetta for all the mothers. We'll never forget when the stage curtain caught on fire during one of these rehearsals. In this grade we picked up Betty Skaggs. Miss Updike was our third grade teacher. We had the same class, except for Bonnie Wells. In our fourth year we had Mrs. Ralph Fisher for our teacher. We gained Gary Speakman this year. We will always remember how much we enjoyed the first chapel services of our own. We also gave a Christmas program this year. A party at Mrs. Fisher's home ended a happy year. Mrs. Prichard was our fifth grade teacher. She let us have a Halloween Party, which we all enjoyed, at Mrs. Scothorn's. Carole Six joined us this year. In the sixth grade we had an unusual teacher -- a man, Mr. Donald Rose. We gained another passenger this year, Niels Johnsen. In the seventh grade we had Mr. Roy Bethel. This year we had a lot of parties and our class began to grow. We gained Lloyd Davis, Bob Scothorn, and John Tipton. In the eighth grade we began to raise money with the help of Miss Helen Irwin, our homeroom teacher. We gained Faye Cade this year. A party at Mrs. Crumley's ended the year. Miss Irwin was also our homeroom teacher in our freshman year of high school. This year we had Marvin Brigner, Rosalie Cline, Annabelle Lemaster, Ray Richards, and Eldora Swoyer joining us from Madison. We sold felt letters to add more money to our small start. We had Mrs. Hunt our tenth year. This year we had a money-making project of selling hosiery. We had all of our class then and no more were to be added. Mrs. Hunt was our teacher the eleventh grade, too. This was a new and exciting year with the Junior Class Play, Shy Guy, and the Junior- Senior Banquet. We had concessions at the basketball games as means of making money. We started our final year under the splendid direction of Mrs. Judd H. Dresbach. Our money-making pro- jects this year were: selling magazine subscriptions, Christmas Cards, cakes at basketball games, concessions ar. Junior High basketball tournament, and Senior Class Play, Graves Ghost. Now we have reached our destination -- graduation. This is not the end, for we have much farther to go. We must surge into the future and the un- known to discover what awaits us -- out there. We have completed one of the greatest milestones of our lives -- twelve unforgettable years at WALNUT TOWNSHIP SCHOOL. Beverly Scothorn Becky Hartley 12
