The weeks before Thanksgiving were busy ones for the first graders. They built a sand table model of the First Thanksgiving. Reading stories helped them learn more about Pilgrims. A model log cabin was placed on green sponge grass. Twig trees were trimmed with tiny crepe paper leaves in fall colors. Separated from the house by a little rail fence was a corn field with rows of tiny corn shocks of dried weeds, piles of corn fkernelsj and candy pumpkins. ln the cabin yard, Indians and Pilgrims made of clothespins and pipecleaners were gathered around a feast table and an open fire. Turkeys fashioned of potatoes and feathers strutted around the scene. The first graders now have a better understanding of the Pilgrim's first Thanksgiving. The room mothers for the first graders are Mrs. Roger Bowers, and Mrs. George Bowers. Page 32
