BOTTOM RIGHT: Reference is made to the French murals in explanation of historical events. in foreign lands The language department Otters a wide variety ot courses in Latin, French, Span- ish, and German. This year the program, including an advanced-standing Latin course, continued to maintain its tradi- tional importance in our school. The seventh and eighth graders studied the fundamental grammar ot the language, while the upper school students read Caesar's Gallic VVars and the immortal works ot Virgil and Cicero. Virgil was also introduced into the Latin ll V cur- riculum. The study ot modern languages also is becoming increasingly important. In the French, German, and Spanish classes toreign literature in the original tongues is read and discussed. 21

TOP LEFT: Plant examination and care are practiced in botany classes. BOT- TOM: Fascinating experiments gain the students' interest in ohysics. The development of a student's ability to reason logically and work accurately is stressed in the math and science pro- grams. ln the one department a range ot subiects trom seventh grade math to senior calculus is taught, while in the other, biological and physical sciences comprise the curriculum. This year, in addition to the regular courses in these tields, advanced-standing classes were expanded and introduced. The three- year honors math program reached its tull development by offering intensive work to sophomores, iuniors, and sen- iors. Moreover, Walnut Hills welcomed the initial appearance ot an advanced- standing chemistry class tor students with special interest in science.
