Four very significant high school years lie behind you now, along with countless memories, some of which will last forever. The real significance of this milestone is that from this point on, you will become self-directed. How you use what you have learned, and the skills you have developed, is completely up to you. What you learn in the future and what you do with all you have learned is your decision alone. This is what you've worked for and wanted for so long. How will you handle independence and total responsibility? I wish you all of the best the world has to offer as you enter a new and crucial phase of your lives. Lawrence P. Eggleston Superintendent Walnut High School Lawrence P. Many students participated, including students from Manlius and Wyanet. A medieval meal was prepared for all. During the meal, men from the Sterling chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronisms battled in medieval armor and with swords. Kiki Eggleston also performed a gymnastic routine for the Royalty. The movie Camelot was shown for all who attended. In the afternoon, seminars were held. They consisted of many different topics about King Arthur and medieval times. Mrs. Bechtold and Mona Troxell, who was studying British literature as an independent study, planned the day; Mr. Shule's art classes made shields with coats of arms; the FFA roasted pork; and Mrs. Guither and her girls prepared the feast, which was served in Medieval fashion, complete with jesters and no silverware. A good time was had on this memorable day. Our sponsor! Having been in the Class 1-A Playoffs since 1979, the Blue Raiders this year made it to the top—the furthest advance for the grid sport of any representative in the county or immediate area. The news media, including Quad-City TV and our area papers, gave our team tremendous coverage; our community gave unbelievable support by attending games, rallies, send-offs, caravans to games, downtown welcome-homes, and the unforgettable reception at the grade school following the championship game; and our school received with pride the runner-up trophy for the championship game. Team members, coaches, managers, cheerleaders, pompons, and band members (including eighth grade) will always remember that November day. 83 Corby Meyer presents the Class 1-A runner-up trophy on behalf of Coach Courtwright receives a team-autographed ball from Assistant the team to Mr. Eggleston, representing W.H.S.
