SENIOR CLASS HISTORY During the four years of our school life in Walnut High School, we have elected the following officers, listed in the order in which they held office: Presidents--Phyllis Von Holten, Jack Esmond, Carl Von Holten, Jack Esmond. Vice-Presidents--Karen Foss, Carl Von Holten, Paul Peach, Carl Von Holten. Secretary--Leona Jacobs, Karen Dalziel, Karen Foss, Bonnie Hardy. Treasurer--Phyllis Von Holten, Cecilia Plum. Representatives--Paul Peach, Tom Conley, Carl Von Holten, Jack Esmond, Jerry Lange, Ned Thompson, Phyllis Von Holten, Doug Page, Cecilia Plum, Jerry Bacorn, Bonnie Hardy. Senators--Karen Dalziel, Tom Conley, Jerry Lange. Sponsors--Mr. Vail (four years), Mrs. Yonk, Mr. Bruss, Mrs. Ewalt, Mr. Waterhouse, Mr. O'May. Our class entered high school with forty-two members, and during our second year we numbered only thirty-seven. At the beginning of our third year, we had dropped to thirty, but increased this to thirty-one in our fourth year. The class of '61 financed itself through the same channels as many classes before us: popcorn, candy and pop sales, the use of the milk machine franchise, magazine sales (in which our class set a school record), sock hops, our junior and senior prays, concessions at the Carnival, the sale of Christmas cards, and a bake sale. The money we earned was spent on our Junior Prom, the senior trip, the class gift to the school, and to finance the year book. We have been well represented in the band, choruses, football, basketball, baseball, and track teams as well as on the honor roll, the student council, and other organizations of our school. We will long remember our initiation into high school, the Junior-Senior Prom on which we worked so very hard, the nights of preparation for our junior and senior plays, the trips to music contests, the excitement of the football and basketball games, and finally, our senior trip. Yes! We are glad to graduate, and we do look forward to going out into the world and establishing a niche for ourselves, but we shall miss, and always remember, the thrill of being a student at dear old Walnut High!

SENIOR PROPHESY Dear Mr. Vail: I was so glad to see you in the hotel in San Fransisco, the other day and to hear that you have retired from coaching and that you are now on your way to China as manager of the Globe Trotters. It was unfortunate that we did not have time for a longer visit because I had just come from Southern California where the Wingling Brothers circus is in winter quarters. Jack Esmond has become a famous ring master and most of our class is employed by this gaint circus. You remember Lynn Andersen? He has lost a lot of weight and now is a midget in the side show along with Bob Mattingly who is a knife thrower and who married Bonnie Hardy, the assistant to the trapeze artist Karen Dalziel. Karen used-to be pretty good on the trampoline at school. Karen Foss the French Kiss Barker, and Leona Jacobs, the bearded fat lady, have stands very near the pop corn concession, run by Debra Conklin. The most surprising and successful acts of the entire circus are those of Jerry Ba-corn. the Lion Tamer and Velma Clapp, the elephant trainer. No one ever expected to find them in these roles in a circus. Jerry Lange has become very famous as a juggler through the able help of his assistant, Gloria Lauritzen. The tall man, Douglas Page, has caused a little dissention in the circus because of his jealousy of Paul Peach, the fire-eater who is madely in love with the sword swallower, Cecilia Plum. This was told to me by Linda Sarver, who assists Cecilia Plum. Mary Wilson, who loved any kind of a dog, has a wonderful dog act in this circus and Karen Wells, the organ grinder, seems to cast a spell over the dogs as well as the monkeys in Phyllis Von Holten’s monkey act. In looking into the side shows, I was surprised to find Guy Henline as a thin man, Nancy Heitz-ler as a fortune teller, Jackie Headley as a muscle man, David Hoge as a cowboy-shooter, and Kay Lind as a star performer in the role of a snake charmer. Edna Mae Valt, the trapeze artist, shares the spotlight with Carl Von Holten, the bare-back rider. The individual acts of Dennis Hubbell and George H use man, who are the chief clowns, are hilarious. I was surprised to learn that John Fritz has a separate billing for his ballet act. Although I am the business manager for the circus.
