The Sophomores and Freshmen had a stiff initiation this year given by the Junior and Senior F. F. A. members. This being the first year Mars Hill and Spring Creek have had Vocational Agriculture, the Walnut boys initiated the boys in these chapters. During the sumrner last year, two of our members, Eugene Wild and Lloyd Roberts, attended the State F. F. A. Convention in Raliegh. Included among the activities this year have been the pruning of grapes and apple trees. Later on, we hope to practice the art of caponizing. In November Bobby Johnson entered a baby beef in the Asheville Livestock Show. His calf brought 3215 per pound in the sale which was above the aver- age price for that day. We are under the able leadership of Ormand C. Williams. P. 71 A. The P. T. A. is one of our most active groups. Mrs. Gilbert Stackhouse, our President, and her officers are doing a good job. The meetings are well attended. The programs are very interesting and educational. The Glee Club and groups of High School pupils have furnished fnusic for each program. We have had the following people to appear on programs at different meetings: Representative Clyde M. Roberts, Reverand Guthrie, Mrs. Shupe, Mrs. R. R. Ramsey, Reverand I-Inland, Reverand Edmonds and our own members. We have a total membership of 160 this year and we are a Standard P. T. A. by the State yardstick . Our grade Mothers are doing a great job too. 37
