ADVANCEMENTS IN OUR SCHOOL PROGRAM As the completion of our fourth year draws near we look back and see the many improvements that have taken place during this time. The first year Mr. Peeke start- ed the ball rolling by the forming of a football team and the purchase of new football equipment. Mr. Hill was our leader the second high school year. This year we saw many improvements by the addition of an agricultural department, and new basketball suits of purple and gold for the boys, girls teams. In our last two years at Walnut we were under the leadership of Mr. Fred Anderson. Mr. Anderson proved to be a very capable leader. It these two years Walnut improved by leaps and bounds. His first achievement was the addition of home economics depart- ment. Our school was greatly improved by the entire building being rewired and a new electric bell system being put in. Our sports department was advanced by the addition of new warm-up jackets for the basketball teams and new bleachers being built by the high school boys under the guidance of Mr. Williams, our agriculture teacher and shop instructor. ln this our fourth year a new typing class and general business class have been added. The typing class was formed with the purchase of fifteen new typewriters. In the sports department new purple and gold football suits and new helmets were purchased In the basketball section a much needed time clock has been purchased and additional bleachers have been built. In our lunch room a new refrigerator, and two deep-freezes, one for milk and one for ice-cream have been added. Downstairs a coca. cola machine and pop-corn have been added. Walnuts chief advancements came in the form of the fine teachers of our school, Mrs. Epps McClure, Mrs. C. M. Blankenship, Mr. Ormand Williams, Miss Louise McClure, Mr. Fredrick McClure, and Mr. Fred Anderson as Principle and teacher. In closing we wish to thank the parents and P.T.A. for the fine cooperation in giving tixne and moneys for the advancement of our school. SOCIAL ACTIVITIES TEA HONORING FACULTY An afternoon tea was given honoring the members of the Walnut School Faculty on November 3, 1949.
