GOOD-BYE MY SCHOOL QTune of Good-bye My Love, Good-bye my school Why must we leave you We hate to leave you now. Why must we part. Tonight we will be leaving Memories will linger Where, when, or how. In our every hearts. And now my friends So then good-bye When we are far away We're always singing of We will miss you forever Someday returning with hope In each passing day. So good-luck, good-luck my school DEAR WALNUT HIGH 1. From hill to hill, from mountains too, we come to thee. Where crystal streams and sunsets grand make beauty free. We reverence thy name sublime, We'll sing thy praise throughout life tixne For thou do'st help us upward climb, dear Walnut High. Chorus: Our hearts beat high with love and loyalty We pledge ourselves to thee, for service grand in every land, Our Walnut High. Z. You've built for us no costly halls, our school so dear, But here within thy hallowed walls, we feel heaven near. 'Neath stately pines, mid fragrant flowers, joy laden pass the fleeting Hours, as we renew our God-given powers, dear Walnut High. 3. We thank thee for the friendship dear, we owe to thee For memories that our hearts will cheer eternally Our souls you kindle with a fire, a lofty purpose you inspire, You help us reach our hearts desire, dear Walnut High. SPIRIT OF WALNUT HIGH SCHOOL From thee, dear Walnut High School Tonight we do depart Memories will linger In each and every heart. Of books and clubs Of work and play Of fun and joy Through every day. We've had our ups and downs But this we all can say The Spirit will never die That keeps us bright and gay. 14

. Sen ior Class History Chapter One. ' ' The history of the class of nineteen hundred and fifty of the high school of the city of Walnut, county of Madison, state of North Carolina is in this wise: It was the sixth and fortieth year, the eighth month and the eighteenth day that twenty-six melek and humble Freshrnen began their tread down that long rocky road of education, in a bright new caravan. Mrs. C. M. Blankenship had the task of being our chief horse in pulling our caravan along, although it had to be given a few pushes from behind by our new principal, William W. Peek, succ- essor of Mr. A. V. Nolan. During our Freshman year, such problems as war, marriage, and weakness of mind'caused the class to dwindle at a rapid rate, leaving about twenty one members to enter as Sophomores. Chapter Two: Our second year of good old Walnut High was reigned over by William E. Hill. We were under a great. strain after losing one of our faithful lead-horses, Miss Anna M. Hyde, but Miss Louise McClure, another old faithful yet much younger horse, helped us to forget our loss and look forward to brighter days. As our caravan moved along during our Sophomore year, led by om- team of prized horses: Miss Louise McClure, Mrs. Epps McClure, Mrs. C. M'.'Blankenship and Mr. Orma.nd C. Williams, guided by Mr. Hill, several more dropped out to tread that wide path of ignorance. It was in this year that we started having fun, for we were becoming Favorites among our leaders. Chapter Three. Upon entering the Junior class, our caravan seemed much stronger. Mrs. Epps McClure was our lead horse and our team was led by our new principal., the honorable Fred W. Anderson. The Seniors were only'a few pacesiahead of us in this year and we were spoken of as The Favorites' ' by everyone. It was in this year that our caravan passed some hikers on that rocky road. We gave them a. lift and on doing so learned that they were ones who had fallen out in days gone by. They had seen their mistakes and were on their way back to Knowlodgeville . 'Of course we took them in with joy and pride and accepted them as members of our Lucky Class . We had stuck together for eleven years of hard labor and had traveled the road of learning until it was becoming smooth with our progress, work and efforts put forth to attain that diploma, only one year away. We were fondly looking forward to that day when we would be addressed as former graduates of Walnut High School., Chapter Four. Our caravan, given its first push down that long road by Mrs. Minnie Davis twelve long years ago, is now nearing its journey's end. After dropping and adding members' all along, we now have twenty-seven who have strived and stayed together to attain the title of Seniors. Now with saddened hearts and tearfilled eyes, we Seniors of 1950 recall many fond memories of good old school days spent in Walnut High. We recall our first years in this Dear School, and all our little mean pranks, along with the few good ones. But alas! these echoes will soon be stilled for we will only be a memory of our classmates and teachers. Now that we are thinking of our future, there is quite a hustle in our caravan, preparing for our final events. But as all other good things, these must come to an end, for after our Senior trip, Jr. and Sr. banquet, Class night, and other activities, we will march down the aisle and bid farewell to Dear Old Walnut High, a place that will always be very dear to our hearts. 'To our teachers and many friends, we say: Merry have we met, merry have we beeng merry do we part, and merry meet again. Class Historian Pansy J. Allen 16
