Q - AA , , , , - Q e k , ,,,-if bfi QA Cl 'X N. rllefqm As the school year of 1942 opened, we found 31 frightened and self conscious boys and girls entering upon the threshold ef Walnut Grove High School We were properly initiated by the Seniors with the Sophomores and Juniors looking on with approval Mrs Fisher was chosen as our .sponeer, Carolyn Kelly as president, Ronald hiller, vice president, William Lehr, secretary and Bill Stoeps treasurer. Two class parties were held during the eight months One was at Jack Brown's and the other was at Carolyn xelly's house We were fort unate in having five new members added to our class during the year They were Jeane Gates, Russell Goodpaster, Joyce Wright, Delbert Shaffer, and Gertrude Clark. During the year Robert Evert moved. On September 3, 1943 we enrolled 30 students as the Sophomore class. During the summer six fellow elassmen withdrew. They were Floyd Gober- v1llo,' Edith Harrison, Jean Parker, Russell Good- paster, and Delbert Shaffer. We chose Ellen Gilkey as our sponsor, Bill Stoeps, president, Ronald Miller, vice-president, and Betty Coekman, secretary and treasurer. The one party of the Sophomore year was held at the home ef Joyce Wright. We sponsored a skating party in order that we might recure additional funds. During the year four members withdrew. 'Y 5 525 - Q F f . 9 , If , , Q 0 17 Sophomore year with 26 members. On September 1, 1944 we enrolled as Juniors with 27 members. During this year Marie Barbee, Emmett Perry, and Gene Fuqua withdrew. We found this year full of responsibilities. We chose Ellen Gilkey as sponsor, William Lehr president, Ronald Miller vice president and Kenneth Klotz secretary and treasurer. We held a skating party and gave a class play entitled nOne Wild Night. W We held two parties this year. The Christmas Party was held at Helen Horr1s's heme and a party to celebrate the suecesslof the play was held at Mrs. Nogglo's heme, We held a successful magazine hiinn11g Negx L , 2 I Li'v iMVMV P' subscription campaign contest, The other contest- ant was Windfall and needless to say we wen. A beautiful silk' American flag which we presented the school was presented te us by the Curtiss Publishing Company fer the outstanding sales cam- paign we put en. In March of 1945 we decided to take the Seniors to Indianapolis to a theater party. Before attending the Circle Theater we ate dinner at the Canary Cottage. This closed our Junior year with a group of 23 classmates. The important year of 1946 rolled around and the time had come when we could enter the dours of Walnut Grove as dignified Seniers.t Five members withdrew during the sum er. They were James Car- son, Virginia Holloway, Bill Presser, Ruth Zetter- burg and Harlan Hott who was inducted into the army. We chose Marian Nogglo to be our sponsor, Kenneth Klotz, president, William Lehr, vice presb ident, and Betty Ceokman, secretary-treasurer. Joh Nance withdrew the first semester which left a graduating class of 17. We held a class party at the home of Joyce Wright. A class play entitled Nwedding Spellsn was presented with huge success on March 22. We were the guests of the Junior class on a Hiller Tour of Chicago. Everyone had a very enjoyable time. Five Senior boys were pre- sented with basketball sweaters and one boy was presented with a student manager sweater. It was decided to publish an annual and every effort was put forth to make it a success. Several activities were entered upon as a class during Senior Week. The main event was a party at the Riviera Club Our graduation exercises were held April 18. Clarence Stiles, Jr. as the absent m ukd prof' essor of Chemistry at Bloomington. He has hit a new low in blowing up buildings with his new exper- iments. Carolyn Kelly has given up the quietness f her home for the more attractive position as mayor of Dog Town. Paul Hiday was recently appointed County Agent of Hamilton County Pauline Stark is considered the best horse vet in Central Indiana She always did like to talk about horses Ronald Miller has his own exclusive escort bureau in New York now He is thinking about start ing a model agency. Q, 'ff We're sorry to lose Ronald after four years of P ,A varsity balls He was All'-County and All-Sectional W in 1945 and All-County in 1946 winning the Sports- Q- manship Award at the 1946 Hamilton County Tourna- fe 'l ment. J x' 'Jack Brown Jack, the fastest boy on the P team, played regular forward position and'was on if the end of most of the fast-breaks. Brown, being Q, fast., on his feet, was usually given the opposing Q team's fastest player to guard. He was named on gi the All--County Team :bn 1946 and was the only mem- sl K ber of the squad to receive Honorable Mention in Q he the 1946 Sectional. if Bill Stoo s Bill, the outstanding defensive ,Q player of the team for two years, was usually R given the opposing center to hold which is a great F task for he was smaller than most centers. He was gy V named to the All-County Team zhn 1946 and we are PQ Q5 sure the team will miss him next season. QQ gy Paul Hiday Paul was the smallest boy on the X V M starting f ve, but that did not stop his offensive , 4 pl ability. He was very fast and could hit from any . angle on the floor. The Hamilton County Huslc Festival was helc at the Noblesville Armory on March 6 and students in the orchestra and glee clubs participated. The music on this program is played and sung by massed groups of music stuoents from sev- en schools in Hamilton County under the direction of the various teachers from these schools.
