W E Dear Dave, I read about your debut as a solo oboist at Carnegie Hall and just had to write and congratu- late you. Mr. Linschied should really be proud of you. Surprised, too! Seriously, though, our class has done quite well, don't you think? Modest Mike has made a huge splash in the fashion world by modeling men's swimsuits for Jantzeng and his old crony, Dale is busy traveling about the nation speaking on the farm situation. Remember how he always wanted to be first in speech class ? Mariann was over the other day and said she had a swell time while she was in New York de- signing the furnishings for Sandy's penthouse. Sounds like quite a mansiong the walls are all the shade of S100 bills and the floors are inlaid with silver dollars. Since Coralyn put her new advertising technique on radio, things are really different. The title, One Minute of Silence , is a real switch from the usual types of programs and commer- cials. If you see any odd-colored pigeons flying around, you'll understand the reason Donnie is rol- ling in dough. How he got them that exact shade of purple he's kept a secret. People are just wild about them. Hairless Harry has completely taken the place of Gorgeous George on TV. He's even hand- somer then Yul Brynner now that he's got his head shaved. Marcy is starring with her husband, Dave, on TV. It's good they've gotten over their bashfulness because color TV would show their blushing something terrific! ! Have you seen the new cigarettes, Cheese ? You won't be a bit surprised when I tell you that it's Carroll and Chuck that are making them. Who else would put the picture of a girl in a bikini on a pack of cigarettes 'P ? ? So far, Stanley is the only scientist who is willing to admit that he has done more for the world than Einstein. Must be nice to be so smart. Then of course there are always a lot of kids who just get married and stick to the farm. Le- ora.. Audrey, and Duane are all good examples of this. Speaking of marriage, you should have been to Bev's wedding. Her dress was completely lace. You just can't imagine how beautiful it was. Her chantilly lace train was so long the church couldn't accomodate it. Rosy and Emily are both still working for the New York Times, and I've heard rumors that they're considering buying it out. Why don't you fin-cToT1t if this is true and write to me? Not to gossip, but do you remember how Kenny and Dale D. could never settle down? Well, they still are making it their favorite pastime to chase girls. Ithink it's kind of disgraceful, when you stop to consider that all the other guys have really made something of themselves. But may- be they're having more fun than the guys who got married. Not that there's anything nicer in the world, if you're happy. One good example of married bliss is Connie. She sure must like it as she's been married five times now, and someone told me that there's going to be another as soon as she can get rid of the present. Then the direct opposite is Annie who is working as a missionary with her husband over in Africa. She always did seem cut out for that sort of work, don't you think? Paul is quite busy in the religious field, too. Canada has seen a lot of zealous workers, but none like him. Did you hear the new LP by Judy? She really does wonders with her atomic-powered organ. Organ music has come into style again all because of her. Sharon H. has what she always wanted, a handsome husband and a brick house in a mountain- ous valley. Sonja told me that she saw her while she was on her trip and said that she looked just wonderful. Did you see Sonja's picture on Time? She owns the controlling stock in the Buick Di- vision of General Motorsg Owen helps her out when he's not too busy managing the Lakers. Jim K. 's picture was in there, too, for winning the Mr, Universe title. Another title was won by Denny, who is now head of the Tall Tale Liars Club. Being a senator must help him. Did you go to the Met and see Janet and Barry's new opera? The critics all say there has never been anything like them. Like father, like son, is really true of LeAnna's boys! !! At the rate they're growing now, they'l1 probably even get taller than their Dad. Butch and Jim O. have set up a new Bureau of Standards for TV. Seems awfully strange that their own shop is the only one that can meet the requirements, doesn't it? Poor Ruthie is recovering at home from a broken leg which she got while she was showing her little girl how she used to do cheers. Katie is her nurse, but I don't think they do much but gab about their old high school experiences. 16 V Marcella W. said the new car she won on Bowlerama goes like . . . isixty?j Although Chet isn't any blood relation to Winston, he's doing marvelous in the political field. Sharon O. has replaced Esther Williams as a swim star. There's quite a scandal when she appears in public, because she wears less out of water than in water. This would probably shock poor old Marv who hasn't been seen for the past five years. He decided he was going to be a her- mit and went to the North Pole. Don't you agree that it really took nerve for Charlotte to run for President? She didn't win, but you can't tell about next time. lhrlene was saluted by Vogue recently for having the nerve to wear something truly different . Not many people will wear levis to an opening night performance. Norman is just as good as Gobel on TV. No one can hear the crazy things he says without laughing. The next time you're in Las Vegas you'1l have to stop in at Joe's casino. It's one of the swan- kiest in town and has a gorgeous floorshow. Well, I have to change the baby's diaper now, so I'l1 quit. Hope I haven't bored you too ter- ribly much. As eve r, Alice P.S. Joyce has joined her husband and their three children and are now touring Asia for the Air Force. wemoriea .fdre Wyacle of wid One bright day several years ago, a roomful of shy six-year-olds began a twelve-year adven- ture. With scrubbed faces and well-combed hair--which would stay that way about two minutes-- they eagerly looked forward to joining the occupants of another world--school. Remember? We were those eager youngsters. Then, when we became sixth graders, we began to look forward to Junior High School with all the different teachers and varied subjects which were offered. With the sixth grade, we reached the top of the grade school ladder. We were brought back to earth again when we began our climb up the high school ladder at the bottom rung--seventh grade. We had to get used to changing classes and getting to our rooms on time, which meant no loafing. Oh, how we looked up to the juniors and seniors, who couldbelong to clubs and take part in several extra-curricular activities. We finally completed junior high and got the opportunity to participate in these activities our- selves. We'll always remember the bits of gossip that were passed around in typing class, carn- ouflaged by the clacking of typewriters. Remember the contest we had in Biology to see whose pig had the longest intestines ? Our trip to St. Peter proved to be very educational as well as fun In our junior year, the new high school addition was completed. This provided room for a new department, Agriculture, as well as several other pleasant classrooms. That year we began our money-raising campaign to finance our senior trip by picking up corn. Our class play, Heading for the Hills, a hillbilly comedy, was put on in December. The members of the 'cast had a lot of fun with their first acting attempts, although they gave Mr. Fox several headaches before prac- tice was completed. Another memorable part of our junior year was the selecting of our class rings. Remember how proud we were when we finally received them? In our senior year, the class took a trip to Faribault where we visited the Faribault State Hos- pital, as well as many other places of'interest. Soon after this, we began practice for our class play, The Curious Savage, again under Mr. Fox's able direction. We presented it in December. With the coming of spring, we began to make final preparation for our much anticipated trip. We decided to go to Chicago where we had a wonderful time. After our return, 'we were caught in a whirl of studying for final exams and planning for graduation. Our Baccalaureate Service was held May 26, with the Reverend Stanley Eyberg presenting the inspiring message. On May 30, 1957, we achieved the goal which we had set for ourselves twelve years before--COMMENCE- MENT--with Dr. Gordon Mork, President of the MEA, as the speaker. It was met with mixed emotions by members of the class, as well as their parents and friends. Each individual had set his own goals, and we looked forward to the time of our first class reunion when we would find out how many members of the class had realized their high school dreams. 17 14. However, the team ranie through with a 7-1 record which was good enough for second place in the Ten Star Conference. We are proud ofthe tearn's achievcrnents and of their sportsman- ship and conduct on the field. Credit for success goes to the entire tegixn, but espe- cially to the team captains, Milie and Dale Anderson, and the coaching staff. Winning district honors were Bill Nordstroni, Dale Anderson, and Richard Solseth. The grad- uating seniors are Dale Anderson, Mike Anderson, Kenny Wurschor, Dennis Johnson, Jim Knaknnilis, Ronald Thompson, Barry Wood, Carroll Beens, and Dale Donner. WE THEY Row 1: MGR. M. Wrestling picked up interest this season along with the improved show- ing of the team. The season's record was two wins and two losses. In the sub-region Walnut was fourth, Denny Johnson placed second, Flesner, Swoffer, Kolar, and Cazett placed third. 46 inning oggem A Team: A. Anderson, D. Anderson, J. Litfin, M. Anderson, R. Solseth, W. Nordstrom, P. Baxter, D. Nissel, R. Kuehl, VV. Radko, and J. Debates. Front: Manager O. Egge, Coach Hart- ley Story, and Manager C. Baxter. The Loggers had another fabulous season. Picked as the team to beat they more than lived up to the prediction. Although their Winning streak was broken at 56 consecutive ganies by Farming- ton, the boys took the loss in stride and went on to win the rest of the season's ganies. For the season the Loggers had a 19-l record and another straight 14 Conference chaznpionship. Story's teain was the favorite to win the district, they carne through by defeating Morton in the finals. In region III Walnut faced tough Granite Falls in their first game. Playing what was probably their best game of the year, the Loggers defeated Granite 75-55 and went on to defeat Lake Benton in a final game, delayed by a snow storrn, by 14 points. For the first tirne in 20 years District 10 was represented at the State Tournament. In the first game Peniberton was defeated. In this game the Loggers put on a tremendous :shooting exhibition, hitting 7555 in the first quarter and 5091, in the first half. Although the shoot- ing cooled in the second half the tearn hung on to win. The next two gaines were lost to powerful Red Wing and Fergus Falls, but the tearn had the satisfaction of finishing 4th in the State Tourna- rnent. Coach Story, in compiling perhaps the greatest coaching record in District lO history, had talent at every position. Bill Nordstrom, a 6-l junior, averaged more than 20 points a game and was all-conference and all-district. Dale Anderson, captain and playmaker, also made al1-con- ference, all-district, and was selected inost valuable player of the district tournanient. Jack I.itfin, a great ball handler and outside shot, also made all-district. Mike Anderson. an outstand- ing guard and aggressive floor player, and Wes Radke, who came through in the clutch on several occasions, coinprised the starting five. Back of the starting five was a group of steady and con- sistent reserves. Bruce Nordstrom, a freshman, saw considerable tournament action and more than held his own. Rich Solseth and others rendered valuable se rvice. Coach Story with Bill and ' Dale.
