With the co -operation from everyone, we have accomplished many things. After completing our plans for the yearbook, the staff members were assigned different things to do. Everyone worked very hard in fulfilling their position. Every member equally shared in the work that it took to publish the 1962 edition of the WILDCAT. We would like to thank each individual who gave so graciously of the ir valuable time in helping present this yearbook. First, we are deeply grate - ful to Mrs. Christine Greene, our advisor, whose wonderful assistance and pleasant disposition in working with us on our yearbook has been exceed- ingly great in the eyes of every staff member. Next, our thanks and appreciation go to Delmar Studios in Charlotte for the efficient work that its staff has given us. Our many thanks also goes to Mr. Willie Bell, our yearbook photographer, who has untiringly given of his time in the publication of the yearbook. We appreciate so much the time, and effort of the Wildcat staff, who have certainly given complete co-operation and time to the an- nual. We want to assure each of you that we have strived to make this yearbook one in which the entire student body is well represented. We have endeavored to maintain and introduce new ideas and memories which will not be forgotten. Even with the few difficulties and worries which oc- curred, we have thoroughly enjoyed working with everyone in presenting this, the WILDCAT. Shelia Johnson, our business manager, worked many hours typing letters and sending bills to all our advert isers. She was also in charge of typing all the ad pages. Bill Johnson, our assistant busi- ness manager was in charge of all money and helping with our budg- et. Delores Southern, the as- sistant editor, did almost anything land was our girl Friday. ANNUAL STAFF As usual, Pam Pepper, Pattie Thomas, Lynn Serge, and Christine Greene, Advisor of the 1962 Year Book, has been so very helpful to the An- nual Staff members in assisting them in any way possible. We appreciate very much the time and effort given by her in presenting the 1962 edition of the Wildcat , Katherine Ellington did a superb job on their section. Mrs. Nancy D. Taylor The annual staff of Walnut Cove School has chosen to dedicate the 1962 WILDCAT to the secretary of our local school board, Mrs. Nancy D. Taylor. Mrs. Taylor has for many years given unselfishly of her time and talents in support of the activities of the student body of Walnut Cove, as well as the endeavors of the principal and teach- ers. Mrs. Taylor is the mother of three of our former students and is also a librarian for Stokes County. To Mrs. Nancy D. Taylor, we dedicate this volume of the WILDCAT as an expression of our abid- ing esteem and appreciation. ,uf if .Qaik This is a scene from the Junior Play entitled Great Caesar's Ghost. The play was a big success and was enjoyed by everyone who saw it. The Juniors did a very good job along with their advisors, Mrs. Middleton and Mrs. Llyod in presenting this play. During the half-time of our Home- coming game against Booneville, the cheerleaders of Walnut Cove High School made acquaintances with those of Booneville in giving them a warm welcome from the school. l Q During football season, the majorettes were complimented on their various routines which they did during the half- time show. One of their best routines was the one in which they used purple and gold flags. These flags were made by the majorettes themselves. They also had twirling and umbrella routines which looked very good to the spectators sitting in the stands. All in all, the majorettes have done a wonderful job in holding high the name of their school band. ,ff The cheerleaders were in very high spirits and cheering loudly at our first basketball game in Walkertown's modern gymna- sium. They are a very de- pendable group and they also hold high the standard of Wal- nut Cove High School. Their support in activities repre- senting the school is appre- ciated by the entire student body. A tense moment during our homecoming game was recorded in this picture. 4 A Wy ps ant 1r-2' -me Mex. ,,,. N 4 -runw- ,,y.'-,, , . if ,-',.. Seventy-eight proud students entered high school in the fall of 1958. The confusion of changing classes was new, exciting and also fun. Our homeroom teachers were Mrs. Overby and Mr. Beck. We strived hard to make that good impression on the rest of the high school. Then we received our final reports declaring us Sophomores. Now we began to take part in many of the social activities. We joined the clubs and began working to be accepted in honor societies. Our homeroom teachers then were Mrs. Bailey and Mr. Woods. We felt that our achievements had been great, yet we knew we had much more to achieve. We worked a little harder as Juniors. What a wonderful and busy year. Our ad- visors were Mrs. Middleton and Mrs. Miller. The Halloween Carnival was an event of fun and profit. The next big junior event was the Junior Play. There was great suspense in waiting to know who got the parts and then, practice, practice. Off The Track turned out to be a huge success. In May came the biggest thrill yet, the Junior and Senior banquet. As we looked forward to being Seniors we knew there would be many hardships and much happiness. At last we became Seniors. Our leaders this year were Mrs. Greene and Mr. Lloyd. First we elected our honorable Senior Officers. Next we received our long awaited class rings. At homecoming we honored our Senior football players. Our next duties were to choose our mascots, flowers, colors, and motto. We pay our solemn respects to our superintendent, principal, teachers, and parents who have guided and influenced us along the way. We have come to the point in our lives where we will be making some important decisions. God grant that we make the right choice in whatever we do. These Marshals who so faithfully strived to do their best, remind us of pupils who are constantly alert for broad- ening their intellectual abilities. By holding their ideals aloft, these students have ful- filled their hopes. These students have ex- perienced hard tasks, but in the end it is truly rewarding. Homecoming Scene HOMECOMING 1961 Homecoming of 1961 was a big occasion for all of the Wildcats of Walnut Cove High School, one of joy and excitement. The first big excitement was the decorating of cars and floats. The parade started at the firehouse and continued thru main street. Every- one was thrilled when the sponsors and homecoming court passed by. And, of course, we can't overlook the happy cheers of the peppy cheerleaders and ball- players. To top the day was the ball game--Walnut Cove vs Booneville. At halftime the crowning ofthe Homecoming Queen took place. The candidates were: Shelia Johnson, Eileene Bullins, and Wanda Thomas. Wanda was crowned by last year's queen, Mary Moon Taylor. To highlight the evening, we had a dance which was enjoyed by everyone. in-4 SCENES F 1 pf 'N-4 5 ,,,..-of '6 5 A iii f 1 un I 'f'vTf J ROM WALNUT COVE 'Z F1 ' lf1','.' ll, f ROL HW 1- 1 ' 1. -' z rf'-Q -'j gif 2, jf --1. f ,Lg ' 5 .- . C, THOMAS, PRINCIPAL Walnut Cove, N. C. January 17, 1962 Dear Staff Members: Our work on the 1962 WILDCAT is finished--now Delmar takes over and prints your year- book. Truly, you are afine group of young people and good workers. It was a pleasure assist- ing you with your work, and it was very rewarding. However, before you relax and pat your- selves on the back, remember this is just one of the obstacles that will block your travel on the journey of life. As you face other obstacles, follow the same rules you used in preparing this yearbook--plan your course of action and never give up. At times, your goal will seem impossible to reach, but remember the 1962 WILDCAT. Ishall never forget the snow of January 10, 1962, for you had planned to finish your sections thatweek. Eventhough schools closed, with perseverance against great odds, you each came to my house with your pages, pictures, rulers, dummy sheets, pencils, and typewritersg and using the floor for a desk, you finished your work. How some of you got there on the icy roads, I will never know, but come and finish you did. Our trip to Charlotte to take our material for publication was a joy and relief! Not only did you tour Delmar Studios, you saw the Charlotte Town Mall, the coliseum, and the beauti- ful new Garinger High School. Thank you for your co-operation inhelping present the 1962 WILDCAT. To all the seniors of the staff, Imust say Thank you and best wishes for a successful life in the years to come. To each staff member who will return for another year, I leave this thought, Do not be com- pletely satisfied with the 1962 WILDCAT, anticipate and strive for continued improvement.
