In these days of outer-space rockets and proposed moon- trip s, science has been stressed in our school. The scene above shows Jimmy and John deeply engrossed with the experiment they are Work- ing on in physics class. Fine Arts are also being stressed in our classrooms. Each student, particularly the college preparatory students, is being urged to take two years of a foreign language. This a typical foreign language scene at the right. QUALITY 1960-61 saw many changes in the concept of what the schools should be striving for, and as a result of studies by the State Board of Education, extra- cur- ricula activities were held to a minimum. The faculty and administrators of Walnut Cove High School have stressed quality education through improved classroom instruction. Absentees from classes were at an absolute minimum--we soon learned to hold our var- ious club meetings and play practices o ut s i d e of regular classroom periods, and to de- vote our entire attention to the subject matter. Ou r library was used more extensively than before for most of us supple- mented our textbooks with out- side readings.

'AB-A, 1' 'Q' XJ' DEDICATED TO MR. JOHN H. NEAL DEDICATIGN We, the staff of the 1961 Wildcat, wish to show our appreciation to a man who has served on the local school board for the past 50 years. He has at all time had the best in- terest of the school at heart. Not only has he devoted his time and in- terest to p ub l i c school education, but has passed this interest to his chil- dren. Four of his eight children are now in the teaching profession. Capable, fair, and reasonable- he sets for us all and example of right-living. Because of our sincere admiration and respect for him as a leader in education, his service to us at Walnut Cove School, his love for his fellow man and his faith as a Christian gen- tleman, we, the 1961 Wildcat Staff, sincerely dedicate this yearbook to Mr. John H. Neal.
