First day of school and the first day for me as a seniorl The kids cer- tainly looked different with their sun-tan and all. Or is it just that l hadn't seen them all summer? Cctober 9 - Felt a little melancholy today. Above the house tops and cars noise loomed the Palmolive building. l just got to thinking of all the business and activity going on. People are struggling and living the lives we seniors are soon to face. October QU-Lane-Waller game. Boyl Was that a game! We scored first against Lane. tDid it surprise us?l lt was our first touchdown of the season, but we lost 20-13. l had to treat a Lane fellow to a coke, loser of bet. November l-The Pep Committee of the Student Council gave speeches to us to go to the football games. ln the mid dle of one of the speeches, the first snow came drifting down. What a commotionl November 7-Miss Gallagher's minstrel show. It was a pipl Kipp's Football Ballet had us rolling in the aisles. Hon- est, l think this surpasses all the former minstrel shows. November 2lfCarnival Dayfand what a dayl When l went into French or History l saw dancing in the air, red, orange, green, Hawaiian leis, or a paper hat looking per- fectly comical on some large football hero's head. December l5-Yippeel Christmas vacation. Mid carols, pageants, ribbons, bills, misletoe and lots of joy and gaiety -school closed for the Christmas vacation. lGoshl l have- n't got enough money saved for gifts.l Ianuary l, l94O e We had eighteen days vacation and nothing to do with it, We pined for ice skating. Today, the last day of our vcation, and school tomorrowll We have ice skating. lanuary l8---Today the temperature was below l3 de- grees. Quite a number of kids were absent. Every one talked about the weather, but this time it was worth talk- ing about. Personally, l didn't think it was cold compared to what the poor Russians and Finns have had to stand in their fight with temperature 47 to 7U degrees below. Honest, l can't imagine anything so cold. lanuary 24-Today is the last day of the semester. Friday when l come back, l'll be a 4-A. The annual described-it is 3112 years of hard labor. To me it has ben Slfg years of fun. lanuary 25-While the fading strains of Land of Hope and Glory died away, the graduation commencement con- cluded. Waller sent forth another class to face a world new to them. lanuary 29-Ohl What a wonderful world! After lU76 days of working to achieve my goal l am now a full-pledged Senior. l can now proudly strut down the hall and look upon the infants, nicknamed as freshies, who lugs brief cases of the so-called cultured subjects. Well, now I know how it feels to be on the other side of the fence. I remembered wafy back when, although greatly impressed upon enter- ing this institution of Constructive Knowledge, l was scared stiff. February 7-First days of school all too jumbled to tell about. Sometimes l feel that l'm walking backward. February 8, Thursday-Ohl Happy Dayl Pubilicity for Wallerl Suzanne 'Thomsen selected as 'iMiss l7 in a Chi- cago-wide Beauty Contest. Has been awarded a trip to Hollywood. My, how l would like to be in her place! Of course l wouldn't have a ghost of a chance but it's nice to think about it.
