Hard workers from the community and sch ln April 1974, the Tafton Fire Co. received permission from the Emergency Health Services, Dept. of Health, to conduct the first emergency Ambulance Technician Course held outside a hospital in the N.E. section of Pa. In order to train ambulance personnel, it was necessary to simulate accidents and provide victims for training personnel to work on. The first drill involved a two-car - one truck accident. The second simulated a school bus accident. He received enough votes to place as the number two man. Bob Goodman and Levi Travis were chosen on honorable mention. They started out by winning the Annual Honesdale Jaycees Tournament. They defeated Mountain View, Western Wayne, and Honesdale in the finals. After that came the Wayne League. Although we did not win the Wayne League championship, we won the 2nd half Class B Title by defeating Honesdale in a playoff. Next came North Pocono for the Wayne League Class B Title and then Montrose for our first District 12 Title in more than a decade. From this triumphant victory the Buckhorns went to the Harrisburg Farm Show Arena but lost to a better East Pennsboro team. The Buckhorns finished 9-5 in league play and 17-9 overall. Craig Mosher, Charlie Neirstedt, and Roger Weeks were this year's Tri-captains. Three of our players were voted to the All Star Team. TRACK AND FIELD The Wallenpaupack boys Track and Field Team had another successful season this year. Even though they had a 3-10 record the team scored a very impressive 5th place in the District 12 meet. Our schools representatives at the state meet were Ron NlclVlurray in the long jump, Richie Campfield in the 330 yard intermediate hurdles, and Randy VanVorrhees in the pole vault. At the Suburban League Track Meet our only first-place winner was Richie Campfield in the hurdles. School records set this year were Rich Wulff in the mile run with a time of 4:55.6, Pete Southwick in the 2 mile run with a time of 10:48.8, Ron lVlclVlurray in the high jump at 5 feet and 11 inches, Richie Campfield in the 330 yard intermediate hurdles with a time of 42.7 seconds, and the M mile relay team composed of Ed Bogacki, Sean Smith, Ron lVlclVlurray, and Richie Campfield set a record with a time of 1:40.2. The Girls' Track Team coached by Nlrs. Edith Bender completed the 1974 season by winning the Wayne County Track Championship for the sixth time in seven years. First-place winners were Carol Pulici - 100 yard dash, Kim Schooley - 440 yard run, Laurie Abich - high jump, and the 880 relay team of Silsby, J. lVleling, Sheridan, lVlougnos. At the District 12 Nleet we sent 5 girls to states. They were Kim Schooley in the 440 yard run, Donna Laabs in the shot put, and the 880 yard medley relay composed of Kim Schooley, Jackie Meling, Vera Hanf, and Carol Pulici. County records set this year were by Kim Schooley in the 440 with a time of 66.4 seconds and the 880 yard relay team of above with a time of 2:08. The 1974 baseball team had another tremendous season winning the Wayne County League Championship with a 13-1 record. Battling with North Pocono the entire season, the Buckhorns defeated the Trojans on the final day of league play 9-8. Then came the District 12 Championship in which our Buckhorns won for the second time in four years. They won it by beating Montrose 5-2. The overall record for Coach Tom Peifer's boys was 16-3. Mr. Gary Brown was his assistant and the JV coach. Captains were Joe Granville and John Morgan. Joe Granville reached an outstanding goal in getting 101 hits for his four years of high school. Besides this, he broke school seasonal records in hits, doubles, triples, and batting average which was .5 He also won his second straight Wayne County League Batting Championship. Other leading hitters were Joe Kizer and Roger Weeks. In the pitching department, John Morgan was 7-0, Joe Granville 4-0, and Joe Kizer 5-3. A record broken by the team was in batting average, hitting at a .319 clip. The JVs had a perfect season winning 11 out of 11 contests. Leading hitters were Frank Costa, Allen Shiffler, and Chuck Cartwright. Captains were Scott Mosher, Jeff Watson, and Frank Costa. - , .
