The result of this weakness was a record of 4-4 with a third place 111 the Inter-Lakes Conference, but the Vikings, led by Coach John Koczman, still had a successful season. Highlights of the season were the record smashing performances by several individuals. Frank Fink broke the 100, 2.20, and pole vault records along with running a leg of a record 880 relay team. Along with Tom Phelps, Jim Pierce, and VanderVelde, Proulx 2 34.4 Don Proulx, Fink led the Vikings to the state finals where he finished with a 3rd in pole vault because of a sprained ankle. Tom Phelps, junior speedster, pushed Fink all the way. Jim Pierce, junior dash man, was only defeated once in the 440. Although the Vikings had punch they were weak in the distance runs and the hurdles. With a little back- ing from newcomers the Vikings should come back with another record breaking season.
