L Q U if x S 4 CLASS Sf SHOSHC VWALJJKCE Dear Wallace High Students: UHappiness consists in activity. - Such is the constitution of our nature. - It is a running stream, and not a stagnant pool.n J. M. Good. Annuals are records of activity and naturally occasions of happiness are the times we wish to remember. This year with our new school district and growth in school size we should have many new friends and happy moments to make the 1955-56 school year a memorable one. Much of the happiness in administration comes from working with you in uncovering hidden talents and making it possible to use these many talents to provide happy occasions during your school days. It has been a pleasure towork with you during the year. MR. OTTO ISZLER High School Principal MR. HAROLD GOLDSTEIN junior High Principal MRS. IDA WILCOX School Secretary 74mm .,gf4e.w4Mefw,.. SCHOOL BOARD-Left to right: Dr. Bonebrake, Mrs. Pugh, Mrs. Pearson, Mr. Mithaug, Mr. Solum. -Sweden! '- Friends, Romans, Countrymen, lend me your . . Ah, yes! Here is the govern- ing body of old Wa-Hi, an alert, awake group of high school students who plan and govern many of our school functions and activities. They declared Twirp Season at a very fortunate time and planned a slam bang of a Halloween party. While desig- nating the time and place of our dances, they formulated committees to buy records and hunt for lost chaperones. This or- ganization held meetings every two weeks in the school cafeteria, and, while eating their soup and hot dogs, they made ar- rangements for coming assemblies, or for selling concessions at the next ball game. i it .. Using a poor virtuous widow as the heroine, the junior class presented the play, Widow's Plight in the Thespian Tournament. janet Bonebrake was successful in winning the best actress award. Next year's seniors have had a busy year. Shortly after school began, they elected studious class officers. Where else would Doug Olson, presidentg Norm Wiegele, vice president, Judie Wilson, secretaryg and Barbara Zoret, treasurer have had their pictures taken but in the library? This class has its share of honor roll students. A straight A average was not uncommon. The class ring is a cherished possession, and this year's juniors wasted no time in ordering theirs. Like the ring, both the junior play and prom are events to look forward to. Tryouts f the play brought forth hidden talent and just enough ham to make the play a hit. The prom was also successful and turned out to be a gala affair. Don't tarry, vote Gerry was one of the many slogans used by the juniors in elections, when Gerry FitzGerald was elected as student body vice president. These upperclassmen are represented in every school club and organization in Wa-Hi. They contribute many musically inclined students to the chorus as well as to the band. One third of Minerettes and Triple Trio are made up of junior girls. And the W-Club has its share of the class of '57. Activities, such as flag twirling, pep band, Hrill team, Key Club, G.A.A., tumbling, Goats, Ski Club, and the newly organized Future Nurses Club, recognize many juniors as members. To make money, they held dances and were in charge of the concessions at several games. of '57 has all the makings of big wheels and are fully capable of running the or The class show next year. Mickey McCoy was elected top gun, with Fred Bardelli, vice presidentg Sherry Tofte, secretaryg and Robert O'Mera, treasurer. Being just sophomores has not slowed their pace, for they have a large representation in Minerettes, Key Club and the W-Club. Also, Naomi Chambers' talent gave her a place in the Triple Trio. John Drager was honored by being chosen Best Actor in the Thespian Tournament. Their entry was The Gentleman Walks Outside. Under the direction of Mr. Herbig and Mr. Boint, the sophomore class entered the only high school float in the Elks' parade and received fourth place. The potential of this class in the field of sports cannot be overlooked. Fred Bardelli, Jim Uhlman, Robert O'Mera, Wray Featherstone, George Fernquist, Mickey McCoy, Bob Perkins and Troy Winchester have already proved their ability in football. Nothing seems to stop these sophomores from climbing higher. But that is the way it should be!!! So went the newly begun Hi Day where every freshman had to speak to everyone he met. This frosh class of 55-56 seems to be the friendliest to enter their last steps to education yet. As they are the largest class, the freshmen had to settle the traffic jams in the halls. The problem was solved by labeling one stairway Down and the other, Up, This was especially needed at noon when all feet bounded to the recreation room on the main floor. There, they danced, played ping-pong, checkers, and pool. At times tournaments for these games were held. A mixer for the junior High was very successful. Every two weeks the class rolled off another edition of their paper. Interest in it was high because so much happened that the gossip was never dead. This class has had a busy year with Larry Ritter, Sandra Mithaug, and Mary Ann Fudge leading them, and, as they opened the door to their high school career, they knew there would be much to look forward to. 7 aadlaledleeauq ' -mg 'm W figfeg, 4' A..H.xy ,, + . x my L fi 5 fi .L N-V ww, if 1 A john Evans Dave Farnsworth K, f. 145.8 Gary Fernquist Carol Fleming Paul Foote Tommy Ford Mary Ann Fudge jo Gabardi Anne Gaffney Sandra Grant Kenneth Haig Elin Hallock Nancy Henry Betty Hood Ray Huffman Sherman Huffman Darlene Hussa Ronald james Donna Jeffries Dick jenkins 1 A 'f i 4- . , fi, . av W i-M1 ' rm rf . Why? you ask . . . The varnished floors of the Civic Auditorium are behind it. Mr. Lommel, the director has had the band prac- tice marching there during bad weather, and in order to protect the floors, all shoes were ordered removed. This past year has been a busy one for the band. -The many trips, concerts, and parades have certainly kept them high stepping. Our school has good season to be proud of this group. And a good deal of the success is due to the able leadership of the student director and officers who are: Skeet Ledbetter, presi- dent, Shirley Corbin, vice president, Butch Marra, treasurerg Rosemary Kohlruss, secretary, and Neil Walter, student director. Or even Chorus? But I can't sing-I'd never make it! l ! Evidently though, some did try out because director, Don Herbig, had a good sized chorus composed of 61 members and the accompanist, Carolyn Palmer, plus the nine members of Triple Trio and accompanist, Judy Miles. The chorus entertained at various functions through the year, the never-to-be-forgotten Passion Play, the annual.Christmas Concert and the variety show. To most students of the choral groups, the climax of their year came on graduation night when the seniors took part for the last time in saying good-byel' to their teachers and their school by way of a final song. 74, .Kama Want hm faawaf CHORUS DIRECTOR: Mr. Herbig 7' 'im FIRST SOPRANOS SECOND SOPRANOS ALTOS Naoma Chambers Barbara Zoret Carol Inskip Donna Kinsey Pat Rauch Sandra Wanamaker Helen Gregory Rozella Gray Barbara Watts ACCOMPANIST Judy Miles 'famameamwg Sm?
