In that year we struggled to the higher education. Our first teacher, Miss Philips had to contend with nine scared and unex- perienced pupils. They were Darwin Mitchell, Paul Kunkle, Ronald Moffett, Daisy Goins, Janet Payton, Wanda Woods, Patricia Gray, Marjorie Myers, and Sheri- dan Bright. What a year. In our second year we lost Sheridan Bright and gained Lury Gene Paxton and Paula Smith. Our teacher was Mrs Nesler. In the third grade we lost Marjorie Myers, Lury- Gene Paxton and Paula Smith, but gained Johnnie Goins Due to illness Patty Gray was unable to continue with us. Our teacher was Miss Lillian Shuler. In the fourth year we gained David Frazier and Don King. Our fourth grade teacher was Mrs. Thompson. In the fifth year of higher education welost David Frazier and gained Glenn Edwards, Fill Hallett and George Hinote. In the sixth year we lost George Hinote and Wanda woods. Mrs. Ruth Pickard was ourfifth and sixth grade teacher. When we came to school the seventh year we found we were up stairs and had lost a few class mates. They were David Frazier, Glenn Edwards and Johnnie Goins. Our sponsor was Mr. A. J. Woods. In the eighth grade we lost Pill Hallett and Daisy Goins and gained Bill Tlbbett, Carolyn Spessard and Carol Harvey.Mrs Guthrie was our sponsor. The ninth year, the first year of our high school we lost Carol Harvery, Don King, Bill Tlbbett, and gain ed Richard Bowen, Janet Carpenter, Bob Crowder, David Frazier, George Hinote, Robert Gooding, Wayne McGuire, and Carol Weaver. Our sponsor was Mrs. Rice. In the tenth yearwe gained Charles Whethington and lost Rob Crowder, George Hinote, Wayne McGuire. Welxmt Charles Whethington in the last semester. Mr. Richard Liechty was our class sponsor. In the eleventh year, we're almost out now, we got Jerry Cooper as a new student and lost Janet Payton. We Lost Jerry Cooper in the last semester of this yean Mrs. Edith Robinson was our sponsor. In the twelfth year we did'nt loose or gain any members. There are nine happy well educated Seniors. They are: Darwin Mitchell, Paul Kunkle, Ronald Moffett David Frazier, Richard Bowen, Janet Carpenter, Carolyn Spessard, Carol Weaver, and Robert Good1ng.Chr sponsor was Mr. Robert Duncan. There are three members of the Senior Class that are graduating that started in the first grade. They are Darwin Mitchell, Paul Kunkle, and Ronald Moffett. .- V- feud poem This is a little story About the class of ' 56 There're lots of things we could write But we'11 not tell all our tricks. We gathered at the school house In the year of '44, Our eyes bright and sparkling Who could ask for more? But as the years want by Some moved and we were sad, Then we'd gain some new ones And we were always glad. At last we're nine in number Only three of us are girls, You see who wins our arguments Of course, the ones with curls. We aren't so very tall Or wide as you all know But we're always ready To get right up and go. We, like the rest of you, Don't always agree But it all works out And we're happy, you see. Twelve years we've struggled And done all our work,f And longed for the time We could sit backfand shirk. Now as the time Comes close to the end, We know not for sure Which road will win. We hope we choose well In our struggle and strife, And will serve our fellow men In all roads of life. Gur parents have lectured us Almost every day, In hopes that we wouldn't All be led astray. So its our hope in life To fullfill every wish And have all of you think We're some SWELL DISH. 00 15413 - Class Pr0Phe0V April ao , 1976 Dear Mr. Duncan, I don't know if you remember me or not, but I used to be a part of the graduating class of '56 which you sponsored at Wallace. I just found out yesterday what they were all doing and thought you might like to hear the latest. My family doctor sent me to a large clinic in Indianapolis for a medical check-up for some insurance papers. He told me to see Dr. Frazier. Well , I gave it no other thought, so when I walked into Dr. Fraz1er's office, you can imagine my shock. You guessed it-it was our boy David. Instead of a medical check-up we sat down for a quiet talk. He told me he'd specialized in heart surgery. He married a nurse from one of the hospitals at which he took his internship , and had two lovely children. He said as his business was heart surgery he wanted a nurse who had some training in that line. About that time I heard a swish of a crisp uniform and his nurse appeared. When I heard myself saying, Janet Carpenter, she slowly grinned and said,nJanet, but not Carpenter, but Brown.u I was really surprised to to hear Janet was married and had two boys and a set of twin girls. I still can hear Janet saying' I'll never get married' back in high school days. Just then the receptionist appeared and said, 'Lawyer Bowen to see you. ' Well I knew then that it could be no other than Richard, our great president for at least one half our high school career. Some elderly man had died, supposedly of a heart attack, and Richard was in to see if David had found out.1f it was a heart attack or murder. When Richard appeared I said , uHello, PeeWee.n He told me that he wesu't marr- ied yet, which came as a shock. He said he, N always wanted to keep a lovely secretary and didn't want any wife to be Jealous.n I d1d'nt know then that, before the morning was over, practically all the class of '56' would soon be in Dav1d's office. It seemed that all the class relied on David as their family doctor and drove for miles to see him. As I was trying to get over my amazement and shock I heard a lot of noise which sounded like kids. Richard excla1med,nOh noi' and David sa1d,uSend them in.n we all remember how well Carol Weaver liked kids. Well , she now has twelve lovely children. I was really surprised to see how expenslvely they were dressed. I soon learn- ed Carol had hooked some millionaire, and she really lived in style. 1341300 x X isa 2 9 9 .if- ai Q V QA f ,E Q Q43-A. 'Q- ld alt' . -13. L Isa x rw, ,B Qu R I looked up and saw the most beautiful lady I'd ever laid eyes on and behind her was her husband. The musician of the class, Darwin Mitchell. He now has his own orches- tra, and his summer tour had brought him to Indianapolis. David then told me that there were two of the class that he knew wouldn't be there, Paul Kunkle being the first. Paul, as I knew, had gone to the Air Force after graduation, where he learned to pilot a plan. He is now manager of the new Indianapolis Municipal Airport. He and his wife, also a former member of Wallace School, were in Europe on a vacation. Carolyn Spessard was the other member who lived too far awau for a visit to Indianapolis. I wasn't surprised when he told me she had married a very wealthy owner of a Saddle, Race, and Show Horse Ranch and lived in Texas. We all remember how fond she was of horses. I then heard someone shouting, nDr. Frazier, Dr. Frazier I did it, I did it. H No one had to tell me who that was--none other than our dear friend, Robert Gooding Robert was a great sclenclst, I learned, and had just learned or discovered the cause and a cure for the common cold. Robert is married and has two adorable girls. Just then I heard a laugh which reminded me of our school days more than ever. Of course it was donald Moffett and his lovely wife. Ronald is the only farmer of the class and a wealthy one, too. He farms the best five hundred acres in Indiana with the help of his six sons. It was a very enjoyable afternoon and I must say Richard is still a wonderful joke teller. I enjoyed my- self so much that I left, forgetting about the check-- up I came after. I think you will agree that the time the class of 1956 spent at Wallace wasn't wasted. I hope this hasn't taken too much of your time. I know you're quite busy since you are the Head of Commer - cial Training at Indiana University. Give my regards to Helen and the family. 5 Ti .. v X i 0lJU 1016 Last Will and Testament we, the Class of 1956, bein body, do hereby will and be g of sound mind and strong queath the following: Our ability to make money for a nice trip to the Juniors. H. S. We hope that each class will like you best, And stand up for you as the years go past And keep alive your spirit until the last. We give our thanks to the teachers we have had Who were in knowledge and justice clad, we hope to remember you, W.H.S., for years to come And remember the work that here we have done, We will always cherish our many thoughts About the happy hours you have brought. In keeping our hearts true to you We have found your faithful colors winning through, The ending of our school days is quite near But we go out with faith and no fear, And as we enter into this world of strife We will be loyal to you all of our life. fXfYLiji.
