BEAUTY DAY I 5, 1 a:ff r Tuesday, October 11, was Beauty Day at George C. Wallace State Community College. For several years now, Beauty Day has become an an- nual pre-Peanut Festival tradition on the campus. The 45 girls who represented their home towns in the festival beauty pageant were invited to spend the day at the college. A fitnzfilled schedule of events aimed at helping them prepare for the festival was planned. The girls arrived on the campus at 9 a.m. and started getting acquainted with each other and the campus per- sonnel who were their hosts for the day. A make-up demonstration featured the cosmetology de- partment using models to show the girls how to use light make-up to enhance their natural beauty and emphasize their best features. The Fine Arts Department provided entertainment to show the range of studies and programs available here. Miklos Bencze, artist-in-residence, sang for the girls, and the cast of Godspell,', then in rehearsal for a November production, did some scenes for them. A fashum show featured 16 campus beauties modeling styles from Porter Square shops. The narrator was Miss Ava Cox, fomier queen of the National Peanut Festival and former student at Wallace College. Then the girls worked on their festival routines with Roy Watford, director of the National Peanut Festival Beauty Pageant, and ferry Kirkland, choreographer. After a short break, they were guests at a Beauty Lun- cheon. Miss Cheryl Fisher, president of the Wallace Com- munity College Student Government Association, was the mistress of ceremonies. Guests included Mrs. S.A. Cherry, member of the Alabama Board of Education, Miss Sharon Riddle, reigning Queen of the National Peanut Festival, and other school and festival personnel. Following the lurwheon, they went on a tour of the cam- pus. The final event of the day, before good-byes were said at 3 p.m., was a party hosted by the SGA to allow Wallace College students to meet the beauties.
