One day he entered a full elevator on his way to work. Normally, social etiquette dictates that when we step into an elevator we turn, face the doors, stand stiffly and watch the lights blink. When our friend entered the elevator, he didn't turn around. Instead he stood facing the others and as the doors closed he said, You're probably wondering why I called you all here today. The usual tension disappeared and immediately he had himself a cap- tive audience for the ride down. It occurs to me that in a sense I too have a captive audience, you are part of it. Undoubtedly almost everyone else who bought this book will read these comments sometime, just like you are now. These are comments that I believe in and I share them without reservation. It is said that first impressions last a lifetime. I'm thankful that this is not en- tirely true, impressions can be modified as further information is received. As you'll notice the subtitle of this Mountain Ash is Impressions. The follow- ing pages are filled with impressions, impressions of WWC, as a community and as individuals. Are the impressions you have of WWC ones you like? Is WWC striving for the highest standards you think it should? My impressions of WWC, though basically very good, don't always measure up. I believe in WWC and in Christian education. However I am concerned about the commitment towards service of WWC and its attending students. In my opinion the level of commitment has changed, and not for the better. In your mind, walk out of the front doors of the ad building with me, across the 'Hello Walk', past the marble drinking fountain, beyond the flower garden on the left and through the red brick pillars supporting old white lights. These pillars are more than light posts, they are the 'Gateway to Service. Students who leave WWC, through these gates, should be seen as leaving with an attitude of service, not of self, or of greed. Those leaving here should place Christ first in their lives, leaving with a heightened sense of commitment towards evangelism, hastening the return of the Lord so we can go home . . . forever. To find complete meaning in life, a 100 percent commitment is required, letting Christ live through us. We've learned here how to serve. It seems a shame to leave any knowledge unused, especially when the knowledge is so important, to ourselves and others. This knowledge creates in us a power to serve and make lasting impressions on all those we meet and in all that we do. The impressions made will change eternity. h M hsmountain ash
