MOUNTAIN ASH 1914 -1983 he first Walla Walla Col- lege yearbook was pub. lished in 1915. The sec- ond issue was also pub- lished in 1915, but since then only one issue has been published each year. Perhaps it was done to save money. Back in 1915, its di- mensions were 9 by 6 inches, it had a brown paper cover and all of 30 pages. Each copy was bound by a string through punched holes. It was called the Western Collegian, but the pre- sent name finally took hold in 1917. That year, 1,000 copies Were printed and sold for .35 cents each. The first advertise- ments appeared in 1918. Some is- sues since then. however, have not had advertisements. Perhaps it was done to save money. In 1928, the Mountain Ash first reached its present dimensions. The first four-Color pictures ap- peared in 1952, and the first four- Color cover appeared in 1973. The 1983 issue of the Mountain Ash is the 69th volume. in seven decades of yearbook history, there has been much Change, and some improvement. This issue contains 250 pages, 116 of which are colorl.
