Runny eggs, trumpets and Christmas Carols - A Diary Editorts Note: During Christmas vacation, the Brass Choir Ensemble 0f Walla Walla College packed its bags and flew ojjfto Poland to do some special con- certs as part ofthe Friendship Ambassador program. Now, we touldtellyou allabout it in our own words, but due to limited budgetary conditions, wejust couldnlt af- ford to go. So, we absconded the diary of one ofthe tour members, Trudy Preston, and we reprint it impart below. Now don? ever tell us that the Mountain Ash doemlt have trauelogues. The First Few Days. We left Walla Walla at 5:30 a.m. on December 13, 1979. We were supposed to leave at 5 a.m., but, uh, that,s when I rolled out of bed. But, I was dressed and at the bus in 15 minutes flat. We got to Pendleton on time, and were greeted by a sign that said IIWWC Brass Choir Apple Breakfast? The Brodys ta couple from Yakima who accom- panied the Brass Choir to Poland, and also helped to manage the toury were there, and they brought more than enough apples for everyone. We ate apples all the way to Warsaw. The flight from New York to War- saw was on a really small plane. I had a seat over the wing. . . and it was a long flight. It was really a weird feeling; no one smiled, no one seemed very happy. So far, the foods been sick. I had a good Spanish omelette, though. Finally got to the Warsaw airport, where we met our tour guides Reata and Vojtek. We drove from there to the Hotel Polonia. Everyone was tired. We had our first supper. . . not very impressive. A vegetable salad with mayonnaise and peas and car- rots. We couldnlt practice because someone left the music on the truck, and it had left. julie and I had to change rooms because they wanted all the girls on one floor, I guess. December 15. Went to breakfast early. Egg soup trunny scrambled eggsl. Went sightseeing in Warsaw. We went to church and had commun- ion. We all drank out ofthe same cup. Everyone that took part, stood up, and then diant sit down until they said a personal prayer. The president of the Polish Union hosted our dinner. We had a sacred concert in the church, and sang for the 22 - MOUNTAINASH 1980
