egg foo yukii blues K enneth F l'eld Perhaps there really is no average day, but one must admit that certain days bear a striking resemblance to each other. Monday, for example, serves as the average blah day for nearly everyone. It begins at six in the morning, the alarm ringing sullenly in whichever ear is closer to the clock. My roommate and I stagger mechanically around the room, squinting disdainfully at the bright room light and each other as we dress. Together we tramp out into the pre-dawn darkness, headed for Clyde's Beanery and its assorted dishes of starch. My roommate, silent, as usual, trudges beside me. He claims that nothing is worth talking about at a quarter after six in the morning. On Monday mornings I tend to agree with him. The cafeteria remains almost deserted at this hour in the morning, and only unfortunates such as my roommate and l Straggle in. With a 47d breakfast under my belt, I am not parti- cularly ready for anything but more breakfast, but I must go to my 7:30 class. My class happens to be Literary Analysis and Research, a course someone dreamed up to finish off the English majors who survived Freshman Composition. No matter what class happens to occupy the early morning time slot, a 7:30 class is bound to be trouble- some. The only consolation for such an early class would be watching the sunrise, but during winter quarter the sun doesn't come up until almost 9:00. The only thing worse than a 7:30 class is an 11:30 class, both of which I have on Monday. During the class I keep thinking of that 479! breakfast I ate several hours ago and listening to my stomach growl. At twenty minutes after twelve, I walk briskly to the cafeteria, just in time to stand in line with several hundred other people. After lunch on Mondays, I usually work, doing what most English majors do, reading Freshman Composition 30
