PAUL C. HEUBACH, M. A., Professor of Religion Elder Heubach bring: many qualities to his position at Dean of the School of Theology. He listens as well a: he xpeaks. Religion Graduates from the school of theology are scattered around the globe in positions ranging from internships to the presidency of the General Conference. One of the departmentas functions is to train ministers, but of equal importance is its desire to give students preparing for other occupa- tions an adequate background in religion to be effective church lay-workers. The supreme purpose of the department is to help young people know Jesus better. 28

DEPARTMENTS OF INSTRUCTION People who have never faced l the problem of choosing a course of study sometimes question a studentls motives in attending college when he expresses in- decision in selecting a major field of study. A glance at the pos- sibilities will illustrate the prob- l lems involved. Walla Walla Col- :lege offers majors in 23 areas l ranging from physics to physical leducation or mathematics to Lmusic. And suppose you choose music; will it be piano, voice, brass instruments, string instru- ments, or music education? i Even the student who wants to enter a profession has more than one field from which to choosee pre-med, pre-dental, pre-dental hygiene, pre-law, pre-medical itechnology, pre-nursing, pre-oe- leupational therapy, prc-optome- ltry, pre-pharmaey, pre-physieal ltherapy, pre-veterinarian, or pre- lX-ray teehnolog. Even though he has selected the profession he l desires, he often faces the decision of a majorebiolotO , zoology, iehemistery, physics, or mathe- l matics. 3 The major decision made, the student faces still another ques- tion, llWhat will I minor in? To Ethis question there is a possibility lof 24 answers. Deciding is not 1 quite as bewildering as it may ap- lpear, for personal preference, ap- ltitude tests, and counselors help reduce the field rapidly, enabling an intelligent choice to be made.
