ful. Today the school itself is a four million dollar monument to those who came to the Northwest to serve. As the Columbia River, Walla Walla College is an alluring entryway which attracts nearly fifteen hundred young people each year. Approximately four thousand graddates have gone out strong in spiritual, intellectual, and physical preparedness to serve their fel- lows throughout the world. As ministers, teachers, doctors, nurses, engineers, accountants, and scientists they have gone. Some have actually walked thousands of miles across Korea and Manchuria, sloshed through muddy rice fields in Burma and China, sweltered in heat and dust in India and Africa, spent months on muleback riding across South America, and flown in Alaskan blizzards to tell the hold sweet storyii of Beth- lehem and Calvary. Captains Cook and Vancouver were dis- appointed in not finding a Northwest Passage. Later explorers declared it did not exist. But it does. It begins at Walla Walla College and leads to a world of service.
