Boys ' Federation sponsored the annual Air Jam on Wednes¬ day. November 26 in the Wa-Hi Commons. At 7 p.m., eight bands came together to treat the student body to a night of rock-n-roll fun. A good-sized crowd assembled to see students strut their stuff to the music of their choice. The au¬ dience was in store for music of all types, as well as costumes ranging from heavy-metal ma¬ keup and chains to surgical scrubs to black hats and shades. Easy Axcess, Kist, and Snowb- lind presented heavy-metal sourxJs to the music of Kiss, AC DC, and Ratt. The Unknowns played rock-n-roll with the tradi¬ tional paper-bag-over-the- head from Unknown Comic fame. The sizzlers — the only all¬ girl group — presented pop mu¬ sic, while the Blues Brothers gave a great performance with music from everyone ' s favorite funny¬ men. Weird Chuck, of course, be-bopped to Weird Al ' s tunes. The Air-Jam evening was not an actual competition — there were no judges and no winners or losers. Everyone Just got up there and had fun. The music for the Air-Jam was supplied by the Tri-Sigma and the drums were courtesy of Tim Phillips. The rest of the instru¬ ments were supplied by each group. Students Visit Wa-Hi Exchange students at Wa-Hi this year represented several programs that are available to students world-wide Japan was the most widely represented with three girls, each sponsored by a different program. Other countries represented were Ger¬ many, Mexico, Switzerland, and Yugoslavia. The students generally agreed that an interest in being a foreign exchange student was the initial step. Then either a test or on ap¬ plication was required. Most of the students ' parents contribut¬ ed to the individual programs in order to finance their child ' s year ' s stay in Walla Walla. How¬ ever, the host families received no payment from the program Students were enrolled at Wa- Hi in a regular academic pro¬ gram, Language barriers seemed to dissolve as most of the students spoke fluent English when they arrived Each lived with a Walla Walla family, some of whom had children at Wa-Hi. For the most part students spent the entire school year with one family, but some did change families mid-year.
