HOMECOMING ’ The Blue Devils declared war on the Wenatchee Panthers, as they celebrated Homecoming Week, October 18 through 24, 1980 Wa Hi became a combat zone Monday in preparation for the upcoming war. Students sang to the tune of army songs as a chosen few feasted themselves upon cream pies, in a pie- eating contest sponsored by Cabinet, during the lunch period. On Tuesday, as the war drew near, many felt it necessary to dress in red, white and blue to promote spirit for their country A mighty tug-of«was between the Girls ' League Cabinet and Boys ' Fed at noon revived our Devil spirit Military hats were in order as students busily prepared for the end of the week and an ROTC Rootbeer -guzzling

contest quenched everyone ' s thirst for competion at noon. That night the Girl ' s Volleyball team and the Football Squad waged combat over a volleyball net. As the week drew near the Ciid, and the battle was in sight, many activities were scheduled to keep everyone busy and focused on war. Students wore military boots as they cheered on their classmates, challenged by an obstacle course. That night the annual serpentine and bonfire charged up the Devils for the big day just a few hours away. A dance followed in the Commons. The day arrived, Friday, October 24, Wa-Hi student body officially declared war. Many students came attired in full army fatigues in response. On Friday afternoon the pep rally was held and the royalty announced and crowned. At the game, our school marched out onto the field and took stand against the Wenatchee Panthers, narrowly being defeated 10-9, in a thrilling but disappointing climax to a week of warfare On Saturday night, all arms and strategies were forgotten as students gathered in the Gym at the annual Homecoming Dance, Autumn Rain , and danced to the hard rock sounds of “Hard Luck . 11
