roCML STUDIES The Social Studies Department at Wa- H is offering a variety of classes in order to give the students an opportunity to re¬ ceive a well-rounded educational experience Sophomores entering Wa-Hi have the choice of entering the following classes History of Western Civilization, Geography and World Affairs, Developmental Geography or Introduction to Human Behavior A junior usually is enrolled in a United States History and Government class, which is the only mandatory course in the Social Studies Department Seniors may enroll in any of the courses mentioned previously In addition, there are the following courses which they can choose from: Sociology, Current Affairs, Psychology, Comprehensive Psychology, Seminar in Economic and Political Systems, (SEPSk and Northwest History In some of these courses, juniors and seniors are intermingled It is the aim of the Social Studies staff to offer a broad enough spectrum of courses as to give each student a chance to fulfill his own needs. 15

FORGIGN MNGUdGG The foreign language program, which of¬ fers German, French, Spanish, Latin and Russia, enables students to comera e our culture with others, emphasizing the differences and similarities. Students learn to stand aside and look at themselves as others do. They learn the structure and vocabulary and apply them to reading, comprehension, writing and speaking 14

IMDUTTRIdl dim Industrial Arts at Wa-Hi is open to all students Three areas make up the Industrial Arts Program. These three areas, Woodworking. Drafting, and Closed Circuit Television offer the Hands On approach to the do it yourselfer, the pre-vocational or the student who is looking for a leisure time recreational activity. Woodworking courses offer basic hand tool and machine tool processes as well as design and finish techniques th at aid the student during construction of projects of their choice Drafting projects offer design, blue print reading, sketching, lettering, and scale drawings used as the language of the industrial world Advanced drafting courses offer planning and designing of homes and grounds with emphasis on originality and creativity Closed Circuit Television offers the student the opportunity to operate all types of video taping machines and equipment Students also operate the Wa Hi closed circuit television system This system consists of 70 outlets located throughout the campus which carry daily programming as requested by the teachers, 16
