The Walla Walla High School Band A Salute to a fine musician- Mr. Russ Larsen Russell Larsen was born in Spokane, but he has spent most of his life in Walla Walla. His interest in music began early when he started taking private clarinet lessons at the Whitman Conservatory during the sixth grade. He attended Walla Walla High School and took an active part in the band as the student conductor. He graduated from Eastern Washington State College with a BA in music and later received his Masters from Washington State University. He continued to perform with groups during his army service and also attended the Rochester School of Music in New York. He came to Walla Walla in 1949 to be the director for the Walla Walla High School band and supervisor of music. In recent years, he has taken the band to two music educators ' state conventions and one All- Northwest convention in Missoula, where the band received a standing ovation, Mr. Larsen has been a long time member of the Community Concert Board, of which he is currently vice president. He is the Area Coordinator of Seattle Symphony School Concerts and is a member of the State Music Advisory Board, This year, he is the All- State Band Organizer for Washington State Music Educators ' Association. He is a member of Phi Delta Kappa and Phi Mu Alpha, music honorary.
