KIRK BIER WAG EN GREGCARLAND GARY BRUMBACK RON HARRIS MARK THOMPSON JIM OL ' RY TIM WAITE DAV EPRF.DR IGKSON Ed Crudup adds another store The Wa-Hi Blue Devils opened the 1968-1969 basketball season with wins over Hermiston 46-25 and Mac-Hi 46- 45 in the annual Jamboree. The following week Wa-HTs reunion with Pendleton proved to be anything but a happv one with Pendleton winning 73-58 Bouncing back on Saturday, Wa-Hi defeated Hermiston 64-52 and 69- 59 with Mike Murr turning in 20 and 18 points in two fine offensive games. The next night saw Wa-Hi defeat Pendleton 70-54. Mark Thompson played an outstanding defensive game. Lifting Wa-Hi ' s record to 4 and 1, the Devils blasted John Rogers of Spokane 84-56 the next week. Wa-Hi opened its conference play with a discouraging defeat by Wenatchee 77-50. Davis and Pasco followed with wins of 74-64 and 67-55 respectively. Xot able to get on the winning streak. Wa-Hi dropped two more games to Richland 81-49 and to Moses Lake 73-69. Jim Oury played an excellent game against Moses Lake, pumping in 23 points. Finding success, Wa-Hi defeated Kennewick 85-74 for their first league win. Leaping Ed Crudup, getting his first starting assignment, responded with an excellent game of 20 points and 13 rebounds. Then Wa- Hi came through with an exciting win over Ike 57-56. Greg Jewell turned in a fine game of 17 points and also hit 2 foul shots in the final seconds giving Wa-Hi the win. Starling the second half of conference play, Pasco dealt Wa-Hi a 59-42 loss with game scoring honors going to Ron Harris who poured in 21 points. Davis followed with a disappointing 68-58 victory by storming from behind in the last quarter. Keeping their home court mastery over Richland. Wa-Hi won 48-46. Gary Brum back came tiff the bench to play an important role by hitting a pair of free throws which sent Wa-Hi ahead for good. Moses Lake ' s 6 ' 9’ 1 Dick Reed dominated the floor and led Moses Lake past Wa-Hi 75-62. Harris and Brumback came off the bench in the fourth quarter to collect 12 and 1 1 points respectively of the 31 points in that quarter, Wa- Hi then defeated Kennewick 74-51 which was followed by a defeat from Eisenhower 63-68% For the finale, the Wenatchee Panthers swept over the Devils 74-67. Dave Case and Steve Martin were important factors on the boards along with Ed Crudup and Greg Jewell 26
