SEASON RECORD Moses Lake Invitational 1st Wa-Hi 24 Pasco 46 Pendleton 67 Wa-Hi 24 Wa-Hi 19 Wa-Hi 15 Wa-Hi 23W Richland 33 Pendleton 40 Kennewick 49 Pasco 34 Vi YVIAA South Quadrangular 2nd AAU Inland Empire 2nd District 2nd State 5th Wa-Hi s cross country team had its best season on record as they finished fifth in the state championships at Seattle, Starting strong with a first at the Moses Lake Invitational, the Blue Devil harriers were undefeated in dual meet action, second in the Inland Empire A.A.U. at Spokane, second at District and fifth at State, missing the fourth place trophy by a single point, due to a judging error. Led by ace runner; Willie Hernandez, who finished seventh individually at the State finals, the Wa-Hi runners showed exceptional balance with Jack York, Kelly Stecker, W ayne Frank, and Juan Hernandez filling the scoring positions in the dose knit way that makes a winning cross country team. Hernandez, York, Sleeker, and Frank all qualified for State on individual merit by placing in the top ten at District. Other varsity regulars were John Dietrich, Scott Mohr land, Gary Benefid and Dan Bailey, The J V. harriers had a great season also, suffering only a single loss.
