JONES, Superintendent; MR. REYNOLDS, Assistant Superintendent. The annual describes pictoria!ly edu¬ cational and extracurricular activities car¬ ried on in the first full year ' s use of the new building. Those in the community who contributed their time, energies, or money toward the construction of the plant are, I am sure, pleased with the quality and amount of its use. You, the students, have taken pride in your new school; the capable, Hard¬ working faculty has taken advantage of what this new functional building has to offer in creating a good educational cli¬ mate, Evidence is abundant to prove that greater achievements have been accomp¬ lished: more merit - scholars, academic awards, and the development of high morale. When people spend their money, and invest in school plant facilities, they like to receive a good return on their investment. The new high school is a real ' ' Blue Chip, The students this year, the highest type of over-achievers. ' will give some high yield dividends. These are the kind of dividends on which you and the taxpayers of Walla Walla do not have to pay capital gains fax. Keep up your good work. ARTHUR D, JONES Superintendent Success in the pursuit of excellence is not beyond the reach of the average stu¬ dent. One of the reasons for the continued success of our Royal Blue is this pursuit of excellence by the dedicated staff. Miss Gray is to be commended for coming up with an outstanding Royal Blue year after year. As one thumbs through the pages of the year book, we all recognize various areas of high performance. With our new plant, competent staff and capable stu¬ dents, we should not settle for less than excellence in all areas. Congratulations, seniors! May you have much success and happiness. To our sophomores, juniors and staff members, may we work together to achieve excellence in all areas of the school program. The 1964- 1965 officers of Quill and Scroll were: Charlotte Benson, president; Cynthia Davis, vice-president: and Patricia Schatzel, sec¬ retary-treasurer. Eligible juniors and seniors must have a high scholastic standing and be recommended by their advisors. A few achievements this year include: entering the national Quill and Scroll writing contest, sponsoring the spring literary issue of the Journal, and presenting an award assembly before the student body. The NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY strives to give recognition to those students who have reached high levels of academic and social achievement. Four areas of qualifica- tion are examined in selecting new members: scholarship, leadership, character and service. Twice a year a special ' tapping is held to receive new members. The Walla Walla Chapter began this year, with 29 members, under the leadership of Roger Brown, president. Nineteen seniors were inducted at the end of the first quar¬ ter The assembly speaker, Mr Robert Burns, professor of English at Walla Walla College, spoke on ' Our Heritage in American Literature. During the third quarter, under president Joe Parmalee, NHS tapped 5 seniors and 14 juniors, to bring the total membership to 65.
