Anne Howells Richard Jaffe Bob Jones Kaye Jones Linda Knapp F Janet Long Kent McLean Merit Mehnlce National Honor Society is a nationwide honorary for high school students who qualify for membership in the fields of scholarship, leader- ship, character and service. Fifteen seniors were tapped in the fall assembly, at which time Doctor Ronald Sires speaker at the assembly and also president of the Whitman Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, pre¬ sented a plaque to the school which contained a list of the names of Wa-Hi graduates who have become mem¬ bers of Phi-Beta Kappa, i In the spring assembly 12 juniors and I I seniors were tapped. Gene Nordstrom, Whitman College freshman, spoke on his experiences as an exchange student to Belgium and showed slides of his tour. First semester officers were Tom Turner, president; Karen Vernon, vice-president; Susan Baker, secretary; Anne Howells, treasurer. Second se¬ mesters were Kelly Farris president; John Arbini, vice-president: Marlene Filen, secretary; and Linda Knapp treas¬ urer, Mrs. Kirkman was the adviser, A spring banquet initiating the new mem¬ bers concluded the activities of NH5 for the year 1958- 1959.
