A good teachen ia an Mr. Basel E. Austin has made a valuable contribution to Walla Walla youth in the 30 years he has taught in and headed the social science department at Wa-Hi. A few of his many other services to student and professional organi¬ zations include many years as head and student gate-kee¬ per and the presidency of the Walla Walla High School unit of the Washington Education Association. Few stu¬ dents will forget the kindly sense of humor and the per¬ sonal interest shown them by one who has been willing to go beyond the call of duty. The students of Wa-Hi are proud to be associated with o teacher of his caliber and are pleased to honor him in this year ' s Royal Blue, Mr. B. E. Austin

A dedicated desire to help young people, wonderful to work with, and loyal to students and teachers — these are o few of the many phrases which describe the high regard students and fellow teachers have for Miss Fay Hamm, The more than 4500 students who have studied under Miss Hamm at Wa-Hi can say, I learned some¬ thing when they recall their classes. Besides being head of the English department since 1933, she has served on many committees for both student and professional groups, and advised numerous student groups, such as N,H,S,, as well os being active in her professional organizations. The Royal Blue is proud to honor one who ts making a distinctive contribution to the teaching field — one whose desire is that the students be well prepared to face the future.
