Austin has made a valuable contribution to Walla Walla youth in the 30 years he has taught in and headed the social science department at Wa-Hi. A few of his many other services to student and professional organi¬ zations include many years as head and student gate-kee¬ per and the presidency of the Walla Walla High School unit of the Washington Education Association. Few stu¬ dents will forget the kindly sense of humor and the per¬ sonal interest shown them by one who has been willing to go beyond the call of duty. The students of Wa-Hi are proud to be associated with o teacher of his caliber and are pleased to honor him in this year ' s Royal Blue, Mr. B. E. Austin A dedicated desire to help young people, wonderful to work with, and loyal to students and teachers — these are o few of the many phrases which describe the high regard students and fellow teachers have for Miss Fay Hamm, The more than 4500 students who have studied under Miss Hamm at Wa-Hi can say, I learned some¬ thing when they recall their classes. Besides being head of the English department since 1933, she has served on many committees for both student and professional groups, and advised numerous student groups, such as N,H,S,, as well os being active in her professional organizations. The Royal Blue is proud to honor one who ts making a distinctive contribution to the teaching field — one whose desire is that the students be well prepared to face the future. Admin ' tetnation The record of the Walla Walla High School contained in the pages of the 58 Royal Blue ' is a record of achievement. It should be a source of real satisfaction to the faculty and to the students to read of these ac¬ complishments both ot the time the annuals ore distributed this school year and in the years to come, Ac¬ tually; you will cherish this record more in the years to come because the memories contained in it will be¬ come increasingly more significant. May I congratulate the annual staff for the high quality of this year s publication. Congratulations also to the graduating Seniors and a sincere wish to them for the most in success and happiness in the future. Arthur D. Jones Superintendent The publication of the Royal Blue is o tangible example of the in¬ dustry and initiative of Wa-Hi stu¬ dents, The same qualities that hove been shown by the staff in the publi¬ cation of the Royal Blue have also been shown by the majority of the stu¬ dents of Wa-Hi. This spirit has made our school one of which we may be justly proud. The class of ’58 is to be congratulat ed for the part it has played in adding to the heritage of Wa-Hi, Your participation in student government, your support of the school organizations and activities, and your willingness to do your best academically will pay good dividends in the future. Keep up the good work so you may be a real credit to your country as you have been to your school. The best of luck and happiness. Allen L. Reynolds Assistant Superintendent Arthur D. Jones fidminiztnation Allen l. Reynolds K, A, Tidrick W. G. Ledbetter The legend of the class of 58 unfolds in the Royal Blue. It is a tribute to the class for its many ac¬ complishments and has deep signi¬ ficance for the senior. The fine work of the Royal Blue staff is an outstanding example of student participation and cooper¬ ation, My congratulations to the ad¬ visor and staff for a job well done, t hope the members of the class of 58 will use their Royal Blue many times in the future to remem¬ ber their many faculty and student friends. So long, seniors! Good luck and happy hunting. K. A. Tidrick Principal It is a privilege to extend best wishes through the Royal Blue to the almost one thousand students of Wq-Hi. The rewards and satisfac¬ tions ore many for those who work with high school young people. It is a pleasure to see these students grow and develop into maturing adults, able to think dearly; to assume re¬ sponsibilities, and to face the chal¬ lenge of today s world unafraid of the problems ahead. Good luck, seniors. Congratula¬ tions, members of the annual staff for another job well done. W. G. Ledbetter Vice-Principal Don A. Anderson Shorthand Typing B. E. Austin U. Now it is our turn to leave these halls of learning and take aur places in the world. As we look bock on the past four years, we remember our classes and exams, dances, parties, assemblies-now only pleasant memories of things that have become an integral part of us. Our freshman and sophomore years how could we have been so green and innocent? The junior year we climbed a bit higher on the ladder of learning. We studied diligently our new sublets. We also got a bit cockier. Additional pnviledges were taken in our stride: the Junior Prom, a true Flamingo Paradise, and the distribution of our class rings. Now we have reached the top—the senior year— the best of all. We studied hard to grasp the knowledge offered us. We also pro¬ gressed socially under the leadership of the first semes¬ ter officers: pres., Alan Beck; vice pres,, Don Davis; sec., Judy Carter treasurer, Kathy Reed; Girls League Rep,, Jo- Anne Cunnington, We had our biggest money making project, The Senior Play, ‘You Cant Take It With You. Row 1: Gory Spray. Standing: Dorlene Hanley, Chuck Slaughter, Mordo Pinkerton, Valedictorian Karen Engeln SoluTatonon Mary Hooper Our able second semester officers, pres., Gary Spray; vice pres., Chuck Slaughter; sec., Mardo Pinkerton; treas., Darlene Hanley; Girls ' League, Sharon McKenzie; and Boys Fed. Roger Wyckoff and Harold Ellenberger led us in such undertakings as the Senior Ball, Senior sneak. Se nior party and finally commencement exercises. So we come to the end of four wonderful years. Who can express the feeling within u$2 We are eager to push forward, yet we linger behind. Thus with one last look back, we turn to face the future, prepared for greater challenges and higher achievements. - 7 Seniona GARY ACKERMAN ROBERT ADAMS-W.W Hi-Y- Bond.
