Cloae to Qod The Forest was God ' s first cathedral, The stately pines His congregation, The willows were the organ pipes, The ferns made up the billows The flowers were the choir boys, The thunder was the prayer, The wind was the Amen; and The rain was the recessional. Delwin Rimbey Alma lflaten ' Neath the range of mighty mountains. Reared against the sky. Proudly stands our Alma Mater. _Asthe years go by. Forwarc Yer be our watchword— Conquer and prevail Hail to thee our Alma Mater, Walla Walla-hail! 4 I dm in iltnation Art h U r D. The high school annua! is one of the most valuable possessions ac¬ quired by a student during his high school days It is one of those un¬ usual items that becomes even more valuable as the years pass It is surprising the number of in¬ quiries we receive from former Wa¬ hl i graduates as to the possibility of buying an annual published in the year of their graduation. The record made this year by Wa¬ hl i students is one of which you may well be proud. Many years from now, you may read the stories of accomplishments contained in this annual with a feeling of real satis¬ faction, To the graduating seniors, may 1 give a personal wish for success and happiness and may I encourage you to always keep The old Wa-Hi spirit, Arthur D Jones Superintendent The Royal Slue is one of the most valuable books that you will ever own. As you browse through these pages in the years to come, if will be the means of renewing old friend¬ ships and reliving your many pleas¬ ant years at Wa-Hi The entire stu¬ dent body owes a debt of gratitude to the staff of the Royal Blue who have worked so tirelessly to bring you this lasting record of school events Congratulations to the seniors. You have done a fine job and can be proud of your part in adding to the heritage of Wa-Hi Best wishes for the future Allen L. Reynolds K. A, Tidrick ■ G. U db etter It is a real pleasure to extend best wishes, through the Royal Blue to the 960 students of Walla Walla High School To the seniors, it is the last opportunity, to the others I hope It is for the summer vacation period only and that you will return for additional training The need in today ' s complex world for well- educated people is greater than ever. Especially important in our demo¬ cracy is the need for informed citi¬ zens who will assume their political responsibilities. Congratulations to the annual staff for another excellent produc¬ tion of the Royal Blue. W. G. Ledbetter Vice-Principal The Royal Blue is a graphic rep¬ resentation of that old proverb which says, One picture is worth a thousand words The pictorial events of the class of ' 57 are in¬ delibly recorded May I fake this opportunity to thank the senior class and student body officers for adding to the illustrious achievements of Wa-Hi. My congratulations to the advisor and staff of the Royaf Blue for their part in making these achievements a permanent part of school history. So long, seniors! Gary Bonks, captain, led the team in winning nine games and losing five. This isn ' t a very impressive record, but those losses were against good teams. The B squad had a fairly good year, but they were lacking in pitchers. Bob Lewis, the only pitcher, did an exceptional job consider ing the circumstances he was under. Other than lacking pitchers, the team was fairly well- rounded out, ond has a few good prospects for the varsity team next year.
