T he primary ob¬ jective of our schools, however, is to develop character and citizenship, to impart certain knowledge and to develop skills which will enable those graduating from our schools to take their places in the community as good citizens and workers, I feel that the Walla Walla High School is doing a good job both in Hs curriculum program and in the so-called extra curricular activities. This annual is a good example. Congratulations to the staff and a sincere wish for happiness and success to the members of the graduating class of 1955. ARTHUR D. JONES, Superintendent Publication of the Royal Blue is a student activity that de¬ serves the support and appreciation of all students. It will serve as a means of reliving four very important years of your life. If you have made the most of these years, in ac¬ quiring knowledge and developing qualities of good citizen¬ ship through loyalty and service to your school, you will ap¬ preciate to a greater extent the value of this book. The fine job that is done each year by the Royal Blue staff exemplifies the willingness with which Wa-Hi students in general enter into the activities of their school. It is this spirit that makes Wa-Hi a school that we can well be proud of. ALLEN REYNOLDS, Administrative Assistant We owe so much to so few. That could be said of all Royal Blue staff members. Without this pictorial record of our school year, much would be lost after graduation. It has been a fruitful year in all respects. The man¬ ner in which Wa-Hi students work out their school problems is gratifying, t respect your good clear thinking. Congratulations to our seniors? they have done much to make our school year a success. ROBERT KLAVANO, Principal A treasure chest of memories is an apt way to describe the school annual, The Royal Blue. It will become increasingly valuable through the years to each student as he tries to relive his high school days through the use of this record. Many fine achievements were accomplished during the past year, through the united efforts of the faculty and students. Congratulations to all for your contributions. To the seniors, my sincere best wishes for your future. W. Given in the form of a comedy skit, the 1 954- ' 55 officers and new faculty members were introduced Many things were accomplished for the school by the Cabinet this year. They successfully made plans and preparations for the 1954 Homecoming. Something newly introduced was the noise pa¬ rade in which the service clubs participated. Exchange Cabinet meetings were held with Yakima as hosts, and later we entertained Richland ' s cabinet. They were lots of fun, and quite informational. Split assemblies were tried without too much success New frolic regulations were drawn up and carried out. Members of the Cabinet were guests of the Chamber of Commerce Planning Session held in January Two members were assigned to each different committee, thus bringing back many inter¬ esting and helpful suggestions One suggestion that will go into effect next year is the selection of a Junior boy as Fire Chief assistant. Her plan is to move to Seattle to be near her relatives and live a leisurely life. With more time on her hands she can well attend to her hobby, handwork, to reading mystery books and to listening to her favorite sport, baseball games. For your many years of service to the school and students, we wish to dedicate our book to you, Miss Kirk. May this book recall many pleasant memories for you in years to come. hobby h: : P ’ teachinJ 1 ' !? your o . They won 14 of their 1? starts and at the same time completed 142 runs to 74 for all opposition. The highlight of the Wa-Hi season was the taking of a doubleheader from the Yakima Pirates. Until they met the Blue and White, Yakima was undefeated in 16 games. Wa-Hi dropped two of their three losses to Lewiston. As in previous years the Bengals were strong, for in the first meeting Ron Shoemaker pitched a one-hit 8-0 win for the Idaho hosts. The two Als of the pitching staff, Al Wetzel with 7 wins and 1 loss and Ai Jentzsch, 6 wins and 2 losses carried most of the pitching load during the course of the sea¬ son; junior Bill Weber won one game while losing none. Darrell Morton with a nifty 442 batting average led the Blue Devil regulars at the plate. Last year ' s leader, Brent Wooten, added 9 points to his average over the pre¬ ceding season, but wound up sec¬ ond with a ,404 mark. Shortstop Phil Stoller with .333 and Lee Baker with .300 round out those who fin¬ ished at the .300 mark or above. Roaming the outer gardens were from left to rightt Morton, Beckel, and Baker. Wooten did the majority of the catching, but Gerwyn Jones was a more than capable replacement when Lee wrenched his knee and a shuffle in the lineup was necessary. Utility infielders, Moe Miller and outfielders Paul Hayes, and Dick Wright will be returning. NAME 9 eb r h 2b 3b hr rbi ev.
