Annette Cote and Dick Mobley were King and Queen of Wa-Hi’s fifth annual Homecom¬ ing, with Pearl Livengood Don Scholl, Joyce Berney, and John Hergert as their supporting royalty. Queen Annette was crowned by Mr. Klavano during half-time at the Homecoming game and then again at the dance by Student Body President Tom Leonard. Highlighting the Homecoming celebrations was the dance, Blue Satan while many other ac¬ tivities were featured during the long week-end. Among these were a beard-growing contest won by Ray Joseph, a parade without the usual floats, the decorating of dowmtown store windows by service clubs, with the first-place cup taken by El Adrea, a serpentine, and the game with Yakima. 28

The Wa-Hi yell squad of 1953- 4 really boosted the school spir¬ it with their many peppy and energetic yells. Fulfilling the du¬ ties of Yell Queen and Yell King were Darlene Chubby” Reiswig and Ed Carter. Returning with them to the squad were juniors Ronnie Lou Nalder and Bill An¬ derson, while the newly elected members were Gloria Hayes and Gene Hume, also juniors. Little Stevie Reiswig served as mascot. With the help of their new adviser, Mr. Keezel, the squad undertook many activities. The organization of the Homecoming parade was one of their main projects. This included making signs, arranging for convertibles for the royalty, and inviting alumni to ride in the parade. Pep assemblies during the foot¬ ball and basketball seasons were planned by the yell squad and the school clubs, Coach, Team,” With a Big W” and Devil ' s Drone” were some of the new yells for this year. The boys on the squad changed their uniforms this year. They are now white-letterman sweaters and white cords with navy tee shirts and shoes. 27

Janice Owsley reigned as queen and sweetheart of the Future Farmers of America’s annual Barn Dance which was held in October Straw benches, a brown false ceiling, and a throne of sacks set the scene to be that of a barn. Pictures were taken in an old-fashioned buggy Janice, who w r as selected by the FFA members, was crowned during intermission by Chapter President Joe Bergevin, and was presented with a bracelet by the boys She was their sweet¬ heart throughout the year, was an honorary member at all their affairs, and received a sweet¬ heart jacket 29 fafa Q ZUU
