MR. LACEY Moran (Kansas) High School, Baker Univer¬ sity, and University of Kansas, furnished the edu¬ cational background for W, A. Lacey, superin¬ tendent of Walla Walla schools. Mr. Lacey taught in Eeno, Nevada; Pome¬ roy, and Pullman, Washington; and Casper, Wyoming; before becoming principal of Wa-Hi. After several years in this position he became superintendent of public schools of Walla Walla four years ago. During his stay he has seen Wa-Hi grow from a school of 1000 students to one of 1375 He believes that present day high school stu¬ dents are definitely superior to those of several school generations ago, in grasp of subject matter, and in their disposition toward school in general He also believes that, in spite of recent de¬ velopments, schools must improve still further to fill modern needs, and must have a greater pro- portion of vocational work to care for those stu¬ dents who will be unable to continue their educa¬ tion beyond the secondary schools MR. LOBAUGH Mr. Lobaugh, Wa-Hi ' s well-liked principal, amazes teachers and pupils alike by his exception’ al ability to associate names, faces and facts He came to Wa-Hi from Pendleton, where he was also high school principal. After graduation from Grandview (Washing¬ ton) High School Mr Lobaugh took his B A de¬ gree at Willamette University and his M.A de¬ gree at University of Washington. He has also done graduate work at University of California. In his four years at Wa-Hi he has been in¬ strumental in strengthening graduation require¬ ments and enriching the activity program, espec¬ ially dramatics and speech. He w T as practically the founder of the cross state league. He is the current president of the Washing¬ ton High School Principals Association He believes that the high school has a great responsibility for the moral, physical and emo¬ tional aspects of its pupils’ lives, and that scholar¬ ship should he combined with the qualities of a well-balanced personality 9
