COMETS MISS SECOND IN STATE BY 2 POINTS The Comet track team made a very impressive showing in all the track meets in which they participated except the Holstein Relays, which was due to the extreme cold weather. The Comets started the season by finishing in Illth place in the State Indoor meet at Iowa City. At the Bo-Pop conference meet in Sac City, Wall Lake set a new meet record with 86Q points for the team championship. Following the loop meet, the Comets finished fifth in The Sac Relays , third in the Alta Relays, third in the Aurelia Relays, second in the district meet at Holstein and sixth :Ln the State Outdoor meet in Des Moines. ' During the 1957 season, the teen broke nine conference records, two district marks and a baker's dozen school records in addition to winning the Roy Whitney Trophy for the mile relay at the Aurelia Relays. The most outstanding accomplishment made by the team was their bettering the State Outdoor mile relay mark with their time of 3: 37.1. The quartette was composed of Gaylen Brotherson, Leon Snyder, Gary Brotherson, and Larry Karsten. 36
