The A Cappella Choir, directed by Mr. Wilson, participated in many recitals, including their an- nual Christmas and Spring concerts. Five choir members had the honor of being chosen for All Shore Chorus this year. The mixed chorus, also directed by Mr. Wilson, met daily second period to practice and prepare for their Christmas and Spring concerts. The student and adult chapters of the A.F.S. sponsored an American Abroad program, send- ing Phyllis Sachs to Japan during the past year. Peter Neumann, a native of West Germany, was a new addition to the 1970 senior class. The club also hosted an A.F.S. weekend for thirty foreign students in the Shore area. The local chapters received a special honor this year from the National A.F.S. by being des- ignated as a bus stop on the national tour of A.F.S. students returning to their own countries. With the advent of the last solar eclipse of the cen- tury, Astronomy Club members were kept quite busy. Led by President Donald Fischer, the club discussed theories of the planetal structure of our solar system. This year the membership increased to include stu- dents from all classes. Art Club members, under the guidance of Mr. Anest, worked on individual proiects this year until spring, when they worked on the stage sets for Car- nival. Their colorful scenery provided the perfect background for the musical. Joyce Hartung works on her individual proiect AUTO BODY, AUTO MECHANICS and A.V.A. CLUBS I AUTO MECHANICS CLUB discusses repairs. AVA CLUB assists teachers in scheduling and running til The Auto Body Club is directed by Mr. Cheeseman with the assistance of Ed and Gary Fletcher. The boys in the club learn the procedures of repair- ing small dents and the different body shop tools. They also learn how to fix minor parts of a car, knowledge that they will be able to use at any time in their lives. The Auto Mechanics Club suc- ceeded in learning and working with the basic parts of the standard gaso- line engine. Many of these students will later become professional me- chanics. The AVA Club is one club on which our school depends. AVA officers for T969-T970 were: Student Instruction Advisor, Chuck Stratton, Student Dis- tribution Advisor, Dennis Wilson, Stu- dent Clerical Advisor, Phil Linke, and Student Maintenance Supervisor, Craig Hankins. This year the band participated in the Christmas Concert, Homecoming Parade, Patriotic Concert and Bantasia. Four sophomores had the honor of being chosen for Region ll All State Band this year. The Business Club is one of the more prac- tical clubs in the school. Not only do they help teachers with paper work, but they also type letters from Santa Claus during the Christmas season. This money went towards a scholarship fund and a trip in April. ln addition to their trip to Montclair State Col- lege and their annual Spring Tea, the Future Teachers instituted several new activities this year. LATIN and FRENCH CLUBS The French CIub's trip to Haiti was well worth the seven months of hard work and planning it took. The club spent six days and five nights in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Students raised money through the second annual Tombola in December and a spaghetti din- ner in March. Mrs. Kamm is the club's advisor. Its officers are: Co-Presidents Nancy Cash and Donna Cooke, Vice-President Orangee Schoch, Treasurer Evelyn Smith, and His- a torian Jean Hecht. The Latin Club took a field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, and club members matched their pro- ficiency in Latin with students all over the country in the National APSL Latin Test. Guest speakers appeared at several of their meet- ings, and the year ended for the Latin Club with their annual Roman Banquet, a dinner at which freshman slaves are auctioned. The Library Council performs standard du- ties of assisting to run the library and help to keep the library operating smoothly throughout the year. This year the Council visited the libraries of Princeton University and Glassboro State College. They are ad- vised by Mrs. Weiss. The I969-I97O Printing Club Officers are Dean Kessler, Ricky Megill, and Mark Peder- son. The boys learn basic printing techniques under the supervision of Mr. Schweickart. One of the largest clubs in Wall High this year is the Surf 81 Ski Club. Members become involved in the two most popular seasonal sports. The Varsity Club's many activities this year included the Varsity Club Dance, Varsity- Faculty Basketball Game, and Varsity Club Scholarship. They also presented the Varsity Club Movie, The Time Machine, which helped raise money for the Thomas Kuta Award and Varsity Club Picnic. The officers of the Student Council worked hard with the Council this year to oFfer the student body more activities than ever before. These activities included Student Council Week, pep rallies, the Student Council Din- ner, the Variety Show, a coffee house, Teach- er Appreciation Days. The Student Council also participated in the Homecoming Parade and Student Exchanges with various high schools in the area. Under the guidance of Coach Dwain Painter, Wall High Crimson Knights finished second only to Point Pleasant Boro in Class C competition with a 6-2 record. Wall was ranked as one of the top ten schools of the Shore area by the As- bury Park Press. The team yielded an average of five points a game and shut out their op- ponents four times. Offensively Wall was explo- sive, averaging twenty-seven points per game. Kevin Hamill, Wall's most valuable offensive player, was chosen to the All-Shore Team. The Junior Varsity team had an even season this year with a 3-3-l record. The Freshman team had an excellent season, winning five of their eight games. These two teams show promise for Wall's future football championships. The coaching staff includes Mr. William Gra- hill, Mr. Livingston, Mr. Farry, Mr. Bull, Mr. Quelch and Mr. Vervoort.
