J ..s A AV L'- o Mn ' . iuskooi THE SEASON ON THE COURT The 1939 Eagle squad completed a basketball season typical of its former posltion among the leaders in the Badlands Conference, by turning out 'runners up' in the conference and going to the semi finals in the 'district tournament By winning twelve of the thirteen conference games played the Eagles were a definite threat for the district tournament honors but missed championship nar rowly by losing to Philip in the semi finals. Junior Johnson placed on the all tournament first team and Clayton Norton and Bob Schone placed on the second team Clayton Norton was high point man of the season with 172 polnts followed by Junior Johnson with 136 points The Eagles made a total of 561 points as to their opponents 287 and won B of the 13 games played by more than fifteen points The team was composed of Junior Johnson and Clayton Norton as forwards, Bud Johnson as center and Bob Schone and Boyd Sebade as guards Cleo Martinson, Bruce Babcock and Orlin Winkowitsch did a creditable job as substitutes and played in a magority of the games Schedule They They Interior Cottonwood New Underwood New Underwood Quinn Martin Kadoka Murdo Cottonwood Oglala Scenic Belvidere Midland Quinn Quinn Philip Midland 26 Y , - ! The theme of the carnival was west ern ranch life. Wilma Mortensen was chosen by popular vote as Queen of the Roundup Other nominees were Donna Best, Velma Seely, Georgla Mills and Lexie Kennedy. At midnight November 5, 1958 Wilma was crowned Queen and was presented with her choice of the prizes in the house She chose a boudoir lamp. The dance floor was decorated as a corral. The booths were decorated in wide variety of coiomah The Bingo Stand and the Hamburger Stand were out standing The homemaking girls worked very hard to decorate the tea room which represented a chuck wagon The waitresses were dressed as cowgirls.
