We were host to 1 100 students In the NISBOVA contest The trombone trio John Blair Fred Shultz Sally Wood Ianice Masterman Barbara and Mike Nusbaum warm up before going to Williams and Janice Martin give a quick the judge s room brush up on their clarinet quartet music Tuning his bass clarinet with the piano are Waiting forthe go ahead signal by the Judge Dennis Sheaks and the accompanist Kay are Lewis Reed with lus alto saxophone and Farrar Rhea Crip at the piano The summer Band activities began on Memorial Day when it marched in the Plymouth Memorial Day Parade and in our own parade here in Walkerton July 2 the Band marched in the Mermaid Festival at North Webster. Every Thursday evening in the summer, a concert was presented on the School lawn, One of the biggest honors the Walkerton High Baud received was playing in the Chicagoland Music Festival and Riverview Mardi Gras of Music. The week-end was spent in Chicago at the Conrad Hilton Hotel. ln October, the Marching Contest was held in which we received a first place. The Band was featured at all home basketball games and played at many community functions. The individual band member also had a chance to show his musical ability by entering the Solo 81 Ensemble Contest for which Walkerton was host this year. Those who received a superior rating were entitled to participate in the State Contest held at Indianapolis. The Concert Band entered a contest in the spring in which it has re- ceived firstratings inthe past few years. During the year the Band played three concerts. Commencement Day climaxed a year of many activities.
