Its tirst schools were one-room commtry schools. Built in 1914, the building we now knowasthe Grade School housed all twelve grades. With the great increase in the num- ber of students, another building became necessary. In 1943, our High School was completed. For each of you to realize at an early age that life has a purpose is one of the important aspects of education. It occurs to me that you students come day after day touring the School for four years seeking out those courses in which you are most interested and which you feel will be of most benefit to you for your life's work. lt is my hope that, as all pass this way, each gets the most for himself from the entire school program and at the same time gives of himself so that the standards of the school may be raised for future students. As each of you leaves your high school for your tour into adult living, may you find that tour has been made more safe and sure for your having passed this way, T, F. The week-end was spent in Chicago at the Conrad Hilton Hotel. ln October, the Marching Contest was held in which we received a first place. The Band was featured at all home basketball games and played at many community functions. The individual band member also had a chance to show his musical ability by entering the Solo 81 Ensemble Contest for which Walkerton was host this year. Those who received a superior rating were entitled to participate in the State Contest held at Indianapolis. The Concert Band entered a contest in the spring in which it has re- ceived firstratings inthe past few years. During the year the Band played three concerts. Commencement Day climaxed a year of many activities. 'YS' J 1-.XR 55 -? V' ffxxf w K 2 fl' .u my . . , ,f L i A 1155? . G ex L , . fx ' 5 Aff '22 iw ,A life. The Indians opened the tourney by defeating North Liberty 58 to 36. The second game was played against Washington Clay, who had drawn the bye. The Colonials caused trouble for the Indians most of the game, but in the final minutes of the fourth period, the Indians widened the gap to a 6 point margin. The score was 49 to 43 as the gun sounded ending the game. This victory put the Indians in the finals against a strong Lakeville team. In the finalgame, the two participating teams were each determined to make this a victory for its own town and school. In the opening minutes of play, the Trojans lead by a small margin, During the second period, the Indians played more accurately and slowed Lakevil1e's offense considerably. It was a see -saw type game the following 2 periods. The break came in the last minutes of the fourth period, showing a tiring Lakeville team and a still strong and dominating Indian Team. Then the Indians surged ahead to defeat the Trojans by a score of 55 to 45, if?- A? 'Mx fl Xwfx 9? vt A K iii' .. A ,,.. . -- ' ,Qs-'ww' ' :'f 1',f.a.n QV:- wi, A wk in A. .
