The Hockey Season HIS year The spiriT and Tun during The hockey season was excepTionally Tine, wiTh a high sTandard oT playing abiliTy ThroughouT The school. AlThough our varsiTy games were noT guiTe as successTul as we had hoped, we Teel a greaT deal more was accomplished during The hockey season This year. We worked under a new plan which divided The enTire school inTo Three groups oT players: beginners, inTermediaTe, and advanced, insTead oT The Tormer division inTo many Teams. ln This way everyone in school had a chance To play in equally imporTanT games. We wish To Take This opporTuniTy To Thank The school Tor The co- operaTion and greaT enThusiasm They showed Tor The new plan inauguraTed by Miss Bowlby, Mrs. GilleTTe and Miss Frisbie. The game wiTh The Alumnae was The usual Triendly aTTair wiTh many alums par- TicipaTing. AlThough The Alumnae played well, The varsiTy deTeaTed Them 8-l. The varsiTy losT To Lowe-Heywood 2-I in a very close game oT excellenT hockey on our Tield. The Rosemary Hall game was played on The Rosemary Tield during a conTinual downpour in a sea oT sliThering mud. Again iT was a very close game wiTh The VarsiTy losing 2-l. The loss oT Jean VeriTy as cenTer halT in This game was a misTorTune suTTered by The Team. The second Team was especially ouTsTanding in Their deTeaT oT Lowe-Heywood wiTh The score 2-I. AT Rosemary Hall They did unusually well despiTe The never-To-be- TorgoTTen rain and mud. The score was a Tie, 3-3. Many congraTulaTions To Helene Johnson, capTain oT The second Team Tor a wonderTul season. For The TirsT Time in The hisTory oT The school, eleven more girls were TorTunaTe enough To be chosen To represenT The school in a Third Team game againsT Rosemary Hall. AlThough The Third Team losT, 2-I iT was a close, exciTing game led by PaT PlunkeTT as capTain. The Sun-Dial games were mosT Thrilling, in spiTe oT a Dial vicTory in all Three games. The second Team oT The Dials were again vicTorious, winning The TirsT and Third oT The series wiTh The second game a Tie. The grandsTand showed splendid spiriT by added compeTiTion in new and wiTTy cheers To which They gave voice during The halves. This year There were only Tour purple blazers lThe reward oT lasT year's undeTeaTed hockey Teaml leTT in The school. They were worn by This year's varsiTy capTain Margie ScoTT, Jean VeriTy, Angie Kennedy, and Jean EckardT. We wish The very besT oT luck To nexT year's Team and we know They are assured oT a happy season under The new regime. May you, The Top eleven, win The coveTed purple iackeTs! l25

The BaskeTball Season HIS year was The mosT successTul baslceTball season we have ever had because The addiTion OT Sun and Dial Third Teams To The Tormer Two enabled girls Trom all Torms To parTicipaTe. Because everyone played an equal parT during The season, There was much more enThusiasm. Caroline Hemingway was capTain oT The Sun, Jean VeriTy oT The Dials. ln a series oT Three ouT oT Tive games The Dial TirsT Team emerged vicTorious, wiTh The close scores oT: 24-24, 29,52, 34-34, 30-2I, 24-2l. Each game was more Thrilling Than The one beTore, and excepTionally Tine, TasT baskeTball was played. The Suns, however, won The series OT second Team games 36-30, 34-27. They displayed remarkable abiliTy - almosT equal To ThaT oT The TirsT Team. In The TirsT series oT Third Team games ThaT we have ever had The Dials were again The vicTors - by The quiTe decisive scores oT 33-I4, 42-27. One rainy day in March, six Teams wiTh Tunny cosTumes and equally Tunny names played in a round-robin TournamenT. The Super-Sixesu baTTled wiTh The Third Tormersf' buT The BuTTerTlies Tinally won and each member received a rabbiT's TooT Trom Miss Bowlby.
