Vernon Fuller Advertising Mgr Sidney Jones Senior Assistant Frederick Lucas Social Editor Erma Knowlton Alumni Editor Angie Fuller Art Editor Althea Hannan Joke Editor William Mathieson Sports Editor Sidney Jones Sports Editor Emma Priest xxxxxx TOWN INSTITUTOONS OF DEMOCRACY Liberty, like all towns has many democratic institutions, which help to make our country a true democracy Some of these are town meeting, schools, grange, church and homes The town meeting is an ample of a truly democratic gov March the citizens of Liberty assemble at the Community Hall, elect all necessary officers, and transact business for the coming year Every citizen who is of voting age may take part in the discussions ihere re some lively speeches and argu ments but there is never any real disturbance Only about half of the people come to town meeting and a very smill part of these vote We must arouse more inter st and enthusiasm in these meetings if we are to continue our present form of government The schools are an asset to the town in training for dem- ocracy. Here, from the earliest grades, the child learns his lessons of sportsmanship, fair play, obedience and responsi- bility. The school activities train the pupils for good citi- zenship and teaches how to take part in self government Such organizations as the grange, the church and the sun day school give to young and old an opportunity for social gath erings, religious instructions, and sharing of responsibility, all of which is a part of the work of a democratic state If these town institutions are to be continued, citizens must become more interested them I believe that all adults should go to town meeting, even though they do not vote Every one should be willing to hold office and to cooperate with other citizens People should become more enthusiastic about the schools The parents should visit the schools and citizens with no children, should give all possible aid to supporting the school and its activities In these days when the right to assemble and to worship ac cording to the dictates of con science are being snatched away zens must become more interested in these rights and try to cre ate different attitude in thc younger generation toward thc town institutions Ikilvklkiklk COMMUNICABLE DISEASES AND T B TEST In February the school w s visited by the health nurse ann Dr Laughlin, head of the Healti Department of Maine, who gave I . . . .
