Beauty Walk cont . . . A sleeping garden wrapped in a Winter white blanket was the setting on January 29, 1 977, at Walker High School ' s annual beauty walk. The cold weather outside added more to the magical mysteries of Winter. Suddenly a ray of warmth and beauty filled the room, as the 68 contestants, dressed in the colors of the rainbow, were announced. The garden soon began to look as if it were awakening into a spring day. The judges (Mr. and Mrs. John Armstrong, Mrs. Jane Mullinax, Mr. George Harland, and Mr. Charles Dean) really had a hard time selecting the top fifteen. The Stage Band provided the entertainment while the judges were deliberating. A silence fell over the gym as Jerry Lee, master of ceremonies, announced, Fourth alternate, 30, Angela Adcox; third alternate, 65, Melinda Taylor; and second alternate, 60, Kay Wallace. With only two girls left, the gym became soundless. First alternate, 36, Angle Jackson was announced and our new Sweetheart of Walker High was 20, Lynn Gardner. As the crowd applauded and cheered, Lynn was crowned by last year ' s winner. 30
