FOREWORD BETTYE BEDFORD Editor ALEC BROTHERTON Editor Dear Readers, We of the Black Gold Staff who are about to depart as graduates of 1962 sin- cerely hope that in future years this issue of the Block Gold will be a cherished me- mento of happy years at Walker County High School — a reminder of favorite class- mates and of the wonderful hours outside the classroom. For most of us, we hove been here for our four years of high school. Now we must leave and step out to face a future that is very uncertain. In whatever degree of success or failure we may find ourselves in years to come, if a glance at these pages will lighten our labors — if only for a single moment — we deem our yearbook worth while. Each of the students here at Walker County High School hod a part in making this school year one to be remembered. Each event will be remembered; some were happy occasions, and others sad, but they are made a port of our school career — a time never to be forgotten. In closing we would like to express our appreciation and give recognition to the members of the class of 1962 who have given their time to produce this yearbook. We hope you enjoy the Black Gold. It was ours for almost a year. Now it belongs to you. Sincerely, cZiZ jMs OJUt. ' Syi tfiiAUyx.

DEDICATION We dedicate this 1962 edition of the BLACK GOLD to Mr. Harry E. Erwin, whose forthrightness has left a lasting impression on our lives. We feel a certain sternness and steadfastness of purpose in his pursuits concern- ing our problems. But in his final decisions regarding our welfare and the pro- gress of Walker County High, we realize that he has kept the ultimate good of the students uppermost in his mind.
