i ff if Glau Jlulofuf N Z- 1 ,af Nw x X nun :un 5 jgiw iff A-1 2 S., few The Senxor Class, th ll s us, propose a toast To ourselus for the trlals and trlbulatuons we hue endured for the past tvvelxe years Durmg thxs tjme we hase dnscoxered that our class has talent the lozfers are among the most mgemous, the scholars Ire the most xntelllgent NX e rellly dldn t become the Class of 44 untal we were m the nmth grade but don t get the ndea we vxeren t heard of before then, cause we were too much ID fact' ly' f Z' In the fnrst year of our get together, we all became great scnentnsts and mathematxcjans-endnng as Dr ,Iekylls and Mr I-Iydes bravery was learnmg to add twenty four sets of num bers nn twenty mlnutes If you ever saw starry eyed ghosts donned nn whnte umforms, lt was our f1rst experlence m the Pep Squad Thmkmg we were the sole nnspnratron of the team, we were at every football game, ram or shme One of our greatest feats of Cheer, cheer, speed demons In the tenth year of our endless journey, we all became fanatxcs on the subjects of Home hconomncs and Bxology By the end of the year, we had Cl3SSlflCd everv bug known to human bemgs, 1nd dnsected all the frogs nn the state of Alabama The future housewnves were kept busy hem stltchnng pnllow cases for thexr hopeless chests Cookmg gave all of us shght cases of mdngestxon and several tnmes our menu was burnt fmgers on rve We served at the annual football banquet that year, and If s stnll a subject for debate as to whether we or the celebrntles were more upset We worked untlrmgly on all the various drxves pertamxng to the war effort when our eleventh year of struggle came around Tallulah Bankhead vnsxted us on a War Bond selling tour consequently we all became autograph hounds, and most of the gurls had vxsnons of fu ture stardom Each of the jumor Commandos who took the obstacle course was presented wxth a small bottle of lmxment to apply to hns numerous bruxses and sore muscles Thus same year we had our flrst taste of forelgn languages, dxscovernng that Latnn and Spamsh were both nmpossnble and xmpassable subjects Later nn the year we put our whole hearted support nn the pubhcatnon of the school paper After a duet of nothnng but prmters 1nk for about two weeks, we edlted our flrst xssue of The Viking The clnmax of the year came wnth the Junnor Sennor Plcmc, when we, as unxors, acted as hosts to the dxgnnfxed Sennors We used every possjblt means of amusement the Country Club could offer m makmg xt a perfect outmg for our eld ers Now xt has come the year we ve been dreammg of I m not so sure we re glad cause when we really begun to thnnk about nt, we ve been havmg the tnmes of our lnves At the fnrst of the year, a lot of us wltnessed our fxrst Sham Battle A group of soldxers made this an unforgettable memory, and a hlghhght of our senior year We've really had fun partncxpatmg nn the dnfferent war efforts thns year, for we all have a better and closer understandmg of the Freedom for whnch Amerlca xs fxghtmg When graduation has come and gone, a lot of our boys wnll answer Uncle Sam's call to the colors, and by some way or another we will all be separated, but I'm sure we will never forget the wonderful tnmes we haxe had together, and I know we wnll nmvr forget each other JULIANNE MANKIN.
